Yastika Bhatia shines for the Melbourne Stars with her maiden WBBL Fifty

Melbourne Stars led by skipper Annabel Sutherland were up against Hobart Hurricanes led by skipper Elyse Villani at Junction Oval, Melbourne in the 12th match of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 10.

The Hurricanes won the toss and opted to bat first but got off to a horrible start as they lost almost half their side inside nine overs. Chloe Tryon joined Nicola Carey at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 66-run partnership for the 5th wicket to take their side past the 100-run mark.

Tess Flintoff cleaned up Nicola Carey to provide the 5th breakthrough for Melbourne Stars with 112 on the board. The Hobart Hurricanes eventually ended up with a total of 133/7 in their quota of 20 overs. Nicola Carey (44 off 43 balls), Chloe Tryon (35 off 33 balls), and Kathryn Bryce (11* off 5 balls) were the top performers with the bat for the Hurricanes. Marizanne Kapp (4-0-28-2), Kim Garth (3-0-21-2), Deepti Sharma (4-0-27-1), and skipper Annabel Sutherland (4-0-20-0) were the top performers with the ball for the Stars.

Chasing a target of 134, the Melbourne Stars openers Ines Mckeon and wicket-keeper batter Yastika Bhatia got their side off to a steady start with a 26-run opening partnership. Heather Graham picked up the wicket of Ines Mckeon to provide the first breakthrough for Hobart Hurricanes. Meg Lanning joined wicket-keeper batter Yastika Bhatia at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 64-run partnership for the 2nd wicket to take their side close to the 100-run mark.

Nicola Carey cleaned up Meg Lanning to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side. Melbourne Stars eventually got over the line with 7 wickets in hand and 13 balls to spare, courtesy of an unbeaten 37-run 4th wicket partnership between Marizanne Kapp and skipper Annabel Sutherland. Wicket-keeper batter Yastika Bhatia (57 off 46 balls), Meg Lanning (27 off 21 balls), and skipper Annabel Sutherland (26 off 20 balls) were the top performers with the bat for Melbourne Stars. Heather Graham (4-0-30-2), Nicola Carey (4-0-29-1), and Chloe Tryon (4-0-30-0) were the top performers with the ball for the Hobart Hurricanes.
