Sophie Molineux’s 4-fer and Hayley Matthews power Renegades to a comprehensive win over Scorchers

Melbourne Renegades led by skipper Sophie Molineux were up against the Perth Scorchers led by skipper Sophie Devine in the 11th match of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 10 at the Junction Oval, Melbourne.

The Scorchers winning the toss, opted to bat first, and their openers wicket-keeper batter Beth Mooney and skipper Sophie Devine got the side off to a solid start with a 43-run opening partnership, scoring at a rate of over 8 runs an over.

Alice Capsey picked up the wicket of Mooney to provide the first breakthrough for the Melbourne Renegades. The Scorchers kept losing wickets at regular intervals and they were eventually bundled out for 140, with two balls to spare. Beth Mooney (36 off 25 balls), Alana King (26 off 15 balls), skipper Sophie Devine (22 off 23 balls), and Mikayla Hinkley (20 off 16 balls), were the top performers with the bat for Perth Scorchers. Skipper Sophie Molineux (4-0-17-4), Alice Capsey (3-0-15-2), Hayley Matthews (2.4-0-21-2), and Georgia Wareham (4-0-35-2) were the top performers with the ball for the Renegades.

Chasing a target of 141, the Melbourne Renegades openers Courtney Webb and Hayley Matthews got their side off to a flying start with a 102-run opening partnership. The pair scored at a rate of over 9 runs an over.

Ebony Hoskin picked up the wicket of Courtney Webb to provide the first breakthrough for the Scorchers, at the half-way mark in the run chase. Melbourne Renegades comfortably got over the line with 6 wickets and 14 balls to spare. Courtney Webb (61 off 40 balls), Hayley Matthews (41 off 27 balls), and Alice Capsey (14 off 16 balls) were the top performers with the bat for the Melbourne Renegades. Alana King (3.4-0-35-2), Lilly Mills (3-0-19-1), Ebony Hoskin (3-0-25-1), and Chloe Ainsworth (3-0-23-0) were the top performers with the ball for the Perth Scorchers.
