Hayley Matthews’s all-round juggernaut continues as Barbados Royals clinch back-to-back victories

Barbados Royals led by skipper Hayley Matthews edged past Guyana Amazon Warriors led by skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill by one wicket, in an edge-of-the-seat, low-scoring thriller. Skipper Hayley Matthews was awarded the Player of the Match for her brilliant all-round performance. She played a crucial role in helping the defending champions get over the line to kickstart the 3rd edition of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League.

Trinbago Knight Riders led by skipper Deandra Dottin were up against Barbados Royals led by skipper Hayley Matthews in the 2nd match of the season at the Brain Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad. Barbados Royals skipper Hayley Matthews won the toss and opted to field first. After being inserted to bat first, Trinbago Knight Riders got off to a poor start as they lost the wicket of their wicket-keeper batter Kycia Knight on the first ball of the innings for a golden duck.

Chenille Henry provided the first breakthrough for Barbados Royals. Jemimah Rodrigues joined Harshitha Samarawickrama at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 14-run partnership for the 2nd wicket. Chenille Henry returned and picked up the wicket of Harshitha Samarawickrama to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side.

Skipper Deandra Dottin joined Jemimah Rodrigues at the crease and the duo stitched another crucial 14-run partnership for the 3rd wicket. Aaliyah Alleyne picked up the wicket of Jemimah Rodrigues to provide the 3rd breakthrough for Barbados Royals. Trinbago Knight Riders lost a couple of wickets in quick succession, losing half their side inside the first 10 overs of the innings.

Shikha Pandey joined skipper Deandra Dottin at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 20-run partnership for the 6th wicket to take their side past the 50-run mark. Amanda-Jade Wellington picked up the big wicket of the opposition skipper Deandra Dottin to provide the 6th breakthrough for her side. Zaida James joined Shikha Pandey at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 50-run partnership for the 7th wicket to take their side past the 100-run mark.

Amanda-Jade Wellington returned and picked up the wicket of Shikha Pandey to provide the 7th breakthrough for Barbados Royals. Trinbago Knight Riders eventually ended up with a total of 113/9 in their quota of overs. Shikha Pandey (30 off 34 balls), skipper Deandra Dottin (28 off 26 balls), Zaida James (22 off 18 balls), and Jemimah Rodrigues (16 off 11 balls) were the top performers with the bat for Trinbago Knight Riders

Amanda-Jade Wellington (4-0-14-2), Hayley Matthews (4-0-21-2), Qiana Joseph (4-0-19-1), and Chenille Henry (2-0-14-2) were the top performers with the ball for Barbados Royals. Chasing a target of 114, Barbados Royals lost the wicket of Chamari Athapaththu in the 2nd over of the run chase. Jess Jonassen provided the first breakthrough for Trinbago Knight Riders.

Qiana Joseph joined skipper Hayley Matthews at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 65-run partnership for the 2nd wicket to take the fizz out of the run chase. Anisa Mohammed picked up the wicket of Qiana Joseph to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side. Aaliyah Alleyne soon followed her back to the pavilion to provide the 3rd breakthrough for Trinbago Knight Riders.

Skipper Hayley Matthews (67* off 56 balls), Qiana Joseph (16 off 19 balls), and Laura Harris (14 off 7 balls) were the top performers with the bat for Barbados Royals. Jess Jonassen (4-0-21-2), Anisa Mohammed (3-0-11-1), and Samara Ramnath (4-0-24-0) were the top performers with the ball for the Trinbago Knight Riders. Barbados Royals got over the line with seven wickets in hand and 17 balls to spare.

Skipper Hayley Matthews was awarded the Player of the Match for her sensational all-round performance. She returned with match figures (4-0-21-2) with the ball and scored another unbeaten half-century (67* off 56 balls) with the bat and also picked up a couple of catches in the field.
