Three weeks ago, Newcastle District Cricket Association (NDCA), Australia, had announced the proposal to start a women’s T20 tournament.

Now it has been decided that an open Newcastle representative team will also be selected in this season. The representative team will take part in the inaugural Women’s T20 Regional Bash equivalent to NSW Country’s current male tournament.

NDCA chairman Paul Marjoribanks told the Newcastle Herald, “The introduction of the local women’s grade competition, as well as a representative team in the NSW Country T20 Regional Bash, is a major advance for female cricket in Newcastle.”

As far as Newcastle women’s T20 competition is concerned, four out of twelve regional clubs have already confirmed their participation into the tournament, The Newcastle City club alongside Hamilton-Wickham, Waratah-Mayfield and Toronto clubs have submitted their entry.

Marjoribanks said, “We’re getting positive feedback from most clubs and we’re hopeful we can launch with the minimum six-team competition.” “NDCA has encouraged clubs to consider forming combined teams if they cannot do it stand-alone in year one,” he added.
