Senior team members, Shafali Verma and Richa Ghosh have not been included in the squad as the competition levels in this Asia Cup are anticipated to be much lesser than the World Cup, they took part in earlier this year. However, there will be a keen lookout for U19 World Cup-winning stars Shweta Sehrawat, Soumya Tiwari, spinner Parvashi Chopra and medium pacer Titas Sadhu. They have had the opportunity of showcasing their play on the big stage which they’ll look to carry forward as a positive. A few of these girls have also played in the WPL, which is a big plus point as they wait in eager anticipation for the Asia Cup to kick off.
19-year-old Sehrawat was India’s run machine at the U19 World Cup, her scores of 92*(57) vs SA, 74*(49) vs UAE and 61*(45) vs NZ ensured India’s comprehensive victories in the tournament. Madhya Pradesh’s Tiwari made valuable contributions to India’s successful world cup campaign. She was Shafali Verma’s deputy and stood up in clutch situations during the knockouts. Leg spinner Chopra and pacer Titas Sadhu will look to master their bowling areas and stick to the hard-line and lengths in the upcoming competition.
The Women in Blue, also have an undisputed star from Assam in the form of Uma Chetry as a wicketkeeper. Hailing from the Bokakhat district in Assam, she will be eager to make an impact with her batting prowess and scoring abilities. The other new entrants include Bangalore’s daughter Shreyanka Patil, Kanika Ahuja, Mamatha Madiwala, Kashvee Gautam, and B Anusha.
As India head into this tournament with a mix of raw talent and experience, they’ll look to obtain positive results. This competition will aid in expanding the girl’s experience on the huge global stage, coach Khadeer will be optimistic about the team putting forth an exemplary display with bat and ball.
