Pakistan have announced their squads for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, where they will play three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 Internationals (T20Is) in Hambantota. The tour will take place from July 23 to August 4, 2026, with the ODI series forming part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2025-29.

The biggest talking point from the squad announcement is the decision to appoint Muneeba Ali as Pakistan’s captain for the T20I series. Regular captain Fatima Sana will continue to lead the team in the ODI matches but will not be available for the T20Is as she will travel to England to play in The Hundred after the 50-over series.
The move gives Muneeba Ali a valuable chance to lead Pakistan in international cricket while the team also begins planning for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2028. The selectors have made several changes to the T20I squad as they look to build a strong group for the next World Cup cycle.
Fatima Sana remains Pakistan’s leader in the ODI format after another impressive international tournament. The talented all-rounder was one of Pakistan’s best performers in the recently concluded ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, where she was selected in the Team of the Tournament.
Fatima finished the tournament with 11 wickets and also scored 85 runs, making important contributions with both bat and ball. Her performances once again showed why she is one of Pakistan’s most valuable players. She will now hope to carry that form into the ODI series against Sri Lanka and help Pakistan earn important points in the ICC Women’s Championship.
While Fatima leads the ODI side, Muneeba Ali will take charge in the T20I series. The experienced opening batter has been a regular member of Pakistan’s batting line-up for many years and now gets the opportunity to captain the national team.
Pakistan’s selectors have made eight changes to the T20I squad. The changes show that the team management has already started preparing for the next T20 World Cup by giving opportunities to several younger players while keeping an experienced group around them.

The ODI series is especially important because it is part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2025-29, where every match is valuable in the race for qualification to future ICC events. Pakistan will be looking to collect more championship points and improve their position in the standings.
The T20I series will also be an important opportunity for Pakistan to test new combinations and give more international experience to players who could become regular members of the squad before the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2028.
The tour will begin with the first ODI on July 23, followed by the second ODI on July 25 and the third ODI on July 28. The teams will then play the three-match T20I series on July 31, August 2 and August 4, all in Hambantota.
Pakistan will enter the tour with confidence after several players impressed in recent international cricket. Fatima Sana will aim to guide the ODI team to valuable championship points, while Muneeba Ali will look to make a strong start as T20I captain. With experienced players and exciting young talent in both squads, Pakistan will hope to deliver strong performances in both formats and build momentum for the challenges ahead.
