Day 3: Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Harmanpreet Kaur lead their side to Victory

Day 3 of the Senior Women’s T20 tournament 2021-22 saw 18 matches being played today. Out of the 18 matches, 12 were played in the morning and six were played in the evening. In this article, we will look at the 12 matches that were played in the morning.

Hyderabad beat Meghalaya by 64 runs

Batting first, Hyderabad posted a fighting score of 6-143 in 20 overs against Meghalaya at Siechem Stadium, Puducherry, thanks to their captain and opening batter Ramya who top-scored with 44 runs off 45 balls. G Trisha (26 runs off 20 balls) and Anitha K (34 not out off 24 balls) were the other contributors with the bat for Hyderabad. With the ball for Meghalaya, captain Debasmita Dutta and Deiphi scalped two wickets each. In reply, Meghalaya were reduced to 8-79 in 20 overs, thanks to a combined bowling effort from Hyderabad. Rubi Chetri top scored with 31-ball 30 for Meghalaya, however that was not enough for her team to cross the line.

Uttar Pradesh beat Vidarbha by 6 runs

Riding on opening batter Shipra Giri’s delectable 65 off 55 balls, Uttar Pradesh piled up a respectable score of 7-130 in 20 overs against Vidarbha at IS Bindra Cricket Stadium, PCA. However, apart from Giri, there were no other major contributions with the bat for Uttar Pradesh. On the other hand, Kanchan Nagwani was the pick of the bowlers for Vidarbha as she claimed 2-23 in four overs. In reply, Vidarbha fought hard and piled up 7-124 in 20 overs to lose the match by just six runs. Wicket-keeper bat LM Inamdar top scored with 22 runs off 18 balls while for Uttar Pradesh, Shilpi Yadav and Rashi Kanojiya were the star performers with the ball as they struck with three wickets apiece.

Uttarakhand beat Baroda by 3 runs

Uttarakhand’s Sarika Koli plundered a blistering 83 off 55 balls to power her team to a competitive score of 4-142 against Baroda at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur. Koli peppered the boundary rope a dozen times, including 11 boundaries and a six. While for Baroda, Nancy Patel and Tarannum Pathan were the wicket-takers as the duo bagged two wickets each. In reply, Baroda strived to chase down the target, however in the end fell short of just three runs. Captain Radha Yadav top scored with 42 runs off 35 balls but she kept losing partners at regular intervals. For Uttarakhand, it was again Koli with the ball, who chipped in with 2-32 in four overs and was well supported by captain Anju Tomar who clinched 2-29.

Chandigarh beat Karnataka by 6 wickets

In a low-scoring affair, Karnataka was bundled out for a paltry 5 in 17.1 overs by Chandigarh at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium Ground C. Niki Prasad was the lone warrior in the fight for Karnataka as she top-scored with an unbeaten 26 off 33 balls. Chandigarh’s captain Amanjot Kaur and Rajni Devi wreaked havoc with the ball as they scalped 3-7 and 3-13 in their four overs respectively. In reply, Chandigarh completed the formalities in 17 overs, winning the match by six wickets. It was again captain Kaur who led the run chase with an undefeated 19 off 25 balls. On the other hand, for Karnataka, it was S Shubha who was the pick of the bowlers as she struck with 2-24 in four overs.

Odisha beat Chhattisgarh by 71 runs

Odisha’s opening pair of Madhuri Meheta (66 not out off 53 balls) and Kajal Jena (60 runs off 56 balls) struck delightful half-centuries to steer their team to a challenging score of 2-150 in 20 overs against Chhattisgarh at St Xavier’s KCA Cricket Ground. On the other hand, Pratigya Singh and Shilpa Sahu were the only wicket-takers for Chhattisgarh as they picked up one wicket each. In reply, Chhattisgarh could only manage to score 5-79 in 20 overs as they lost the match by 71 runs. Shivani Krishna top scored with 24 runs off 28 balls for Chhattisgarh while Priyanka Darshini starred with the ball for Odisha grabbing 2-13 in four overs.

Manipur beat Arunachal Pradesh by 81 runs

In a lopsided affair, Manipur got the better of their north-eastern counterpart Arunachal Pradesh at Amingaon Cricket Ground as the former beat latter by 81 runs. Batting first, Manipur registered 9-146 in 20 overs, thanks to their captain and opening batter Ganga Waikhom, who top scored with 51 runs off 35 balls, including five boundaries and a six. On the other hand, for Arunachal Pradesh, Shivi Yadav was the wrecker-in-chief as she scalped 4-30 in four overs. In reply, Arunachal Pradesh were bowled out for a paltry 65 in 19 overs. Apart from opening batter Mai Mekh (13 runs off 18 balls), none of the other batters scored in double digits. Manipur, on the other hand, had a great outing with the ball, with Monicadevi Ningthoojam leading the pack with 2-10 in four overs.

Kerala beat Rajasthan by 8 wickets

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Rajasthan posted a modest score of 5-113 against Kerala at CAP Ground 3. Sangeeta Kumawat top scored with 46 runs off 41 balls, including half a dozen boundaries. In reply, Kerala chased down the target with ease in 18.1 overs, winning the match by eight wickets. Minnu Mani led the run chase from the front with an indelible unbeaten half-century that came off 41 balls. She hammered seven boundaries and a six during her match winning knock.

Railways beat Himachal Pradesh by 64 runs

The defending champions Railways put together a daunting total of 4-181 in 20 overs against Himachal Pradesh at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium. Opening batter Swagatika Rath starred with the bat as she muscled 69 off 44 balls, including 12 boundaries and a six. On the other hand, for Himachal Pradesh, it was Prachi Chauhan who was the pick of the bowlers as she accounted for 2-47 in four overs. In reply, Himachal Pradesh were bowled out for 117 in 19.2 overs as they lost the match by 64 runs. It was Chauhan again with the bat as she top scored with 32 runs off 30 balls. For Railways, Rajeshwari Gayakwad wreaked havoc with the ball as she scalped 4-18 in four overs.

Tripura beat Bihar by 9 wickets

Tripura handed a crushing defeat to Bihar as they beat them by nine wickets at the Greenfield Stadium. Batting first, Bihar’s innings was done and dusted for a miserly 89 in 18 overs, thanks to SH Chakroborty and NN Debanth who scalped two wickets each. In reply, Tripura made light work of the run chase as they completed the formalities in 12 overs. Opening batter Ambika Debnath led the run chase with a brilliant 51 not out off 37 balls, including half a dozen boundaries and a six. Apurva Kumari was the solitary wicket-taker for Bihar.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s 64 not out went in vain as Haryana beat Punjab by three wickets at the JSCA International Stadium Complex. Batting first, Punjab posted a challenging score of 3-155 riding on captain Kaur’s half-century. On the other hand, Suman Gulia and Gulshan Ali were the wicket-takers for Haryana as they claimed one wicket each. In reply, Haryana completed the formalities in 19.2 overs, thanks to their captain and opening batter Shafali Verma who top scored with 50 runs off 23 balls. Kanika Ahuja and Neelam Bisht were the leading bowlers for Punjab as they bagged two wickets apiece.

Jemimah Rodrigues led Mumbai to a 45-run win over Bengal at the JSCA Oval Ground. Batting first, Mumbai piled up a fighting score of -158 in 20 overs, thanks to their opening batter and captain Rodrigues who smashed 46 runs off 31 balls, including three boundaries and as many sixes. Manali Dakshini too contributed with the bat lower down the order as she muscled an unbeaten 43 off 24 balls. On the other hand, Rumeli Dhar was the pick of the bowlers for Bengal as she struck with 2-25 in four overs. In reply, Bengal were bundled out for 113 in 17.1 overs, thanks to Saima Thakor and Rodrigues who clinched two wickets apiece. Bengal’s opening batter Mita Paul top scored with 36 runs off 5 balls.

Sikkim and Pondicherry locked horns against each other in a low scoring affair at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara. Batting first, Pondicherry could only manage to score 9-90 in 20 overs. Opening batter Bhakti Tamore top scored with run a ball 21 while for Sikkim Pranita C and Purny Maya Guruny claimed two wickets each. In reply, Sikkim failed to chase down the target as they fell shy of just four runs in the end. They were reduced to 7-86 in 20 overs. Tshering Ongmu Lepcha starred with the bat as she mustered 26 runs off 28 balls. On the other hand, for Pondicherry, Divya Shanmugam was the pick of the bowlers as she scalped 2-20 in four overs.
