Match 36: Marizanne Kapp’s 4 Wicket Haul restricts Hurricanes to just 96 Runs

The 36th match of the seventh edition of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) was played between Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers at the WACA in Perth on Sunday.

1st innings Hobart Hurricanes 96 all out in 20 overs

Batting first, Hobart Hurricanes were skittled out for a paltry 96 in 20 overs, as the South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp wrecked havoc with the ball scalping 4-10 in her four overs. The right arm speedster opened the bowling from the other end and on her second ball got rid of the dangerous Rachael Priest (1). Ruth Johnston top scored with 38 runs off 40 balls, including three boundaries and two sixes. For Perth Scorchers, apart from Kapp, Lily Mills picked up three wickets, captain Sophie Devine accounted for two wickets, while Heather Graham struck with one wicket.

2nd innings Perth Scorchers 99-5 in 15.3 overs

In reply, Perth Scorchers completed the formalities in 15.3 overs, winning the match by five wickets. Top order bat Chloe Piparo top scored with 29 runs off 33 balls, including three boundaries. Chamari Athapaththu and Kapp were the other major contributors with the bat mustering 18 runs each. For Hobart Hurricanes, Tayla Vlaeminck was the most successful bowler as she claimed 3-21 in her four overs, while Molly Strano accounted for one wicket.

Player of the Match

Perth Scorchers’ Marizanne Kapp won the player of the match for her stellar all-round performance. The right arm seamer picked up 4-10 in her four overs and with the bat she scored an unbeaten 18 off 15 balls.

Hobart Hurricanes will play against Adelaide Strikers on November 13 at Harrup Park in Mackay, while Perth Scorchers will lock horns against Melbourne Stars again on November 10 at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide.
