Veda Krishnamurthy, a player is with unmatchable talent, made her international debut at the age of 18 and since then she is an important part of the Indian side. She was born on 16th October 1992 and started training for the cricket professionally at the age of 13 in Bangalore.

Before joining cricket, Veda used to go for Karate classes and was a black belt too at the age of 12. She even claims that maybe it was karate that helped her hit powerful shots in cricket. She followed Mithali Raj and Suresh Raina, they both were her idol from a young age. Veda wears jersey number 79. Her favorite shot is straight drive and inside out.

EARLY LIFE

She started training under her first coach Mr. Irfan Sait. She used to practice at KIOC ( Karnataka Institute of Cricket) for which she shifted to Bangalore so that she could devote enough time to the ground. Her family too has always been supportive and has helped Veda in chasing her dreams. Her father Mr. KG Krishnamurthy, her two elder sisters, one brother and of course her mother always pushed her in conquering her dreams.

DOMESTIC CRICKET

She started her domestic cricket by representing Karnataka. Under her captaincy, the Karnataka Under-19 team won consecutive south zone and interstate cups. Recently in senior T20 challengers too, she led India C and under her captaincy, her team lifted the trophy. After a few years of domestic cricket from Karnataka, she joined Railways and gained a lot of experience there. However, after a few years, she resigned from Railways and joined back KIOC. She had been honored with the ‘Vijaya Karnataka Sports Person of the Year’ award as well. While playing a lot of domestic cricket, she had developed her game in such a way that she is quick between wickets, agile as a fielder and if the run rate requires to be pushed, she can hit big shots as well. Because of all her capabilities, she is always a boon to the team.

INTERNATIONAL CAREER

She made her international debut at the age of 18 against England on 30th June 2011 and scored a crucial knock of 51 runs in that game. She made her T20 international debut on 11 June 2011 v Australia. In February 2018, she became the youngest player for India to score 1000 runs in women’s ODI’s.

One of her most significant performances at the international level includes her knock of 70 runs against New Zealand which helped India progress into semi-finals of the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup.

With the experience of 48 women’s ODIs and 71 women’s T20I, Veda has 829 and 821 runs respectively in both the formats. Her stats include 8 fifties in ODIs and two fifties in T20 formats. She is a middle-order bat and is a pro in accelerating run rate. She is going to be part of the 2020 World Cup as well.

Veda’s highest score in ODIs has been 71 and her batting average in the same format is for 25.90. On the other side, her highest score in T20Is is 57 not out with batting average of 18.24.

She had played in Big Bash League as well representing Hobart Hurricanes. She is the third player from India to play BBL.

PERSONAL LIFE

Veda loves listening to music and watching movies. She believes in talking and getting involved as much as she can in the dressing room. She has high self-belief. Other teammates call her ‘ved’.

Veda is the youngest in her family. She has a Grade-B Contract in the BCCI list and she receives ₹30 lakhs per annum as per the contract.

Belagavi Panthers picked Veda as their brand ambassador ahead of Karnataka Premier League 2017. Veda mentioned on the launch of KPL that she was excited for the franchise cricket as it would give great exposure to young players to prepare for the domestic season and the matches would too help in building a healthy competition among players.
