Though Harleen Deol starred with the bat, pacer Meghna Singh played a huge role in restricting the Delhi Capitals to a total of 177-5, one which could’ve been much more had it not been for the 3-wicket spell of the 30-year-old pacer.

Meghana’s spell proved to be the turning point as she struck early to dismiss the dangerous-looking Shafali Verma, halting Delhi’s aggressive start, the opening partnership worth 83-runs. She then sent Jemimah Rodrigues back for just 4, further denting the Capitals’ momentum. Later, she accounted for Annabel Sutherland on 14, ensuring Delhi couldn’t accelerate in the death overs and restricting them to a chaseable total.

After the proceedings of the match, Singh reflected on her bowling effort and shed light on her magical moment as well.

She shared that the win was crucial as they are currently placed second on the points table, making it important to win every game from here on. She also stated that the team has assigned her a particular role, and she always tries to give her best for the team.

“The wicket was a good batting surface, and the ball was coming nicely on the bat. Opener Shafali Verma loves to hit on the pace, and we tried our best to vary the pace and deceive the batters, which eventually brought success.”

The right-arm medium pacer bowled a slower delivery to Verma while the batter was expecting a good-paced ball. Mistiming it towards the mid-wicket region, Phoebe Litchfield took a brilliant catch near the ropes.

Singh said, “Litchfield took an outstanding catch. In the first instance, I thought it may sail over the boundary for a six. Same goes for Deandra Dottin’s catch to dismiss Annabel Sutherland, which was, no doubt, the catch of the match.”

“It was a collective team effort, and we are happy to execute it to perfection,” she shared as Gujarat Giants displayed an all-round performance, with both their batting and bowling units stepping up at crucial moments.

Harleen Deol anchored the chase brilliantly, smashing a fluent 70 off 49 balls with nine fours and a six. Staying unbeaten, she ensured a smooth finish for Gujarat Giants, guiding them to a crucial victory with ease.

“Brilliant knock by Harleen, and this was no doubt her best innings I’ve seen live. We would like to carry forward the winning momentum, and every player would love to give their best for the team.”

The Giants will lock horns with Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai Indians on March 10.
