England’s rising star Charlie Dean makes her WPL debut with RCB in a must-win

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) handed young English bowling all-rounder Charlie Dean her debut against UP Warriorz in a must-win game for Smriti Mandhana’s squad at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025. Dean had replaced Australian left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux in January 2025 with Molineux injuring her knee during the recent Ashes series.

Dean, who has become a key member of England’s white-ball set up, has 50 WT20I wickets from 39 games at an impressive average of 18.48. She also has experience from The Hundred, where she features for London Spirit, and has struck 18 wickets from 30 games across four seasons. Dean had her best season at The Hundred last season, in 2024, picking up 7 wickets from the 10 games with a best of 3/20.

Dean’s WT20I best bowling figures came against West Indies at Bridgetown in December 2022, where Dean picked up 4/19 in the third T20I of the 5-match series. Dean also impressed in the WODI format, picking up a hat-trick during England’s tour of South Africa in December 2024.

On her WPL debut against UP Warriorz, Dean, like every RCB bowler, endured a tough outing, conceding 47 runs in her 4 overs. However, she managed to claim a wicket, dismissing her English teammate Sophie Ecclestone in the final over.
