As the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 is up and running at full throttle, the UP Warriorz faced a humiliating thrashing against Gujarat Giants as the home team was demolished by the Giants by 81 runs in the first game of the third leg of the tournament.

Ahead of their first home game, Deepti Sharma-led UP Warriorz made the brave call to drop out-of-form Tahlia McGrath and handed young Australian Georgia Voll, who replaced Chamari Athapaththu, her WPL debut cap.
Born in Queensland, Voll, is a right-handed batter and an occasional right-arm off-break bowler who plays as a top-order batter for World Champions Australia.
Despite brief and concise chances to showcase her talent at the highest level, Voll has showcased glimpses of her potential in international outings. She has donned the Baggy Green in one Test match, and featured in six white-ball games, three One Day Internationals (ODIs), and as many Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), making little yet effective contributions across formats.
In her solitary Test match appearance, she managed 12 runs, while her ODI record would give her confidence a world of good—amassing 173 runs at a tremendous average of 86.50, including a brilliant hundred in only her 2nd international outing. Till date, she has only appeared in 3 T20 Internationals.
Voll made her presence known in style on the international scene with a breathtaking century in the second ODI against India in December 2024. Her innings was part of a prolific series, wherein she scored 173 runs with an average of 86.5. A proven performer in the shortest form as well, Voll has scored 1,404 runs across 78 T20s, showcasing her ability to adjust across formats.
In the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), Australia’s premier domestic competition, Voll has been a consistent performer, demonstrating her ability and quality with both bat and ball. In more than 70 games, she has scored 1,233 runs at an average of 22.01, with three half-centuries and a top score of 97.
Her contribution was especially evident in the 2024/25 WBBL season when she was a vital cog for the Sydney Thunder, scoring 330 runs in 12 games at a stunning average of 30, including two fifties. Adding to her claim as a reliable all-rounder, Voll also contributed 10 wickets, further establishing her worth to the team.
While UP Warriorz seek solidity in their top order, Voll might be the one to give them the batting impetus they so desperately need, given that their frontline batters have been struggling to score big. Her WPL debut, though, did not go according to script, as she was out for a duck, but considering her recent form, she is still an asset for the team.
