Sent in to bat by the Mumbai Indians, the Challengers were restricted to a score of 167-7, with Amanjot Kaur taking 3 crucial wickets. Her victims included the in-form batters Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosh, both of whom had previously won matches for their team.

However, this was not all for Amanjot. A player in the same team as ace all-rounders Nat Sciver-Brunt and Amelia Kerr, Amanjot managed to shine with her batting performance as well. Four wickets down, when Mumbai found themselves in trouble, Amanjot Kaur built a crucial partnership with captain Harmanpreet Kaur.

Playing second fiddle, Amanjot played the perfect supporting role until Harmanpreet lost her wicket, forcing Amanjot to step up. Batting alongside youngster Kamalini Gunalan, Amanjot showed extreme match awareness, choosing the perfect moments to strike hard. She ended her night on 34*(27), which included two sixes—the first she has hit in her WPL career.

Awarded the Player of the Match, Amanjot displayed experience and match awareness, helping her team add 2 crucial points to their tally. Her performance christened her as a true all-rounder and one to watch out for in the league.

Former India captain and legend Mithali Raj was all praises for the all-rounder. “When you have a set batter like Amanjot Kaur, who has done so well—hitting those two sixes—it gives confidence. And having a young 16-year-old out there, what a platform for Kamalini Gunalan to come in and score the winning runs in her first season with Mumbai Indians,” Mithali said on JioHotstar, as she highlighted Kaur’s stability while in the middle.

“I think she backed herself today. As someone who spent time in the middle alongside Harmanpreet Kaur, she has watched her captain play big shots and taken a page from that. She wanted to finish it for Mumbai Indians,” added Mithali, as she highlighted how Amanjot learned from her captain’s game and applied it to ensure her team got over the line.
