Another Women’s Premier League (WPL) game between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, another thriller in the WPL 2025!
The 2025 WPL opener saw Royal Challengers Bengaluru pull off the highest-ever chase in tournament history, courtesy to standout performances from Richa Ghosh, Kanika Ahuja, and Ellyse Perry. But the drama and competitiveness carried into the second game, where Delhi Capitals clinched a nail-biting, last-ball victory over arch-rivals Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai, batting first, leaned heavily on Nat Sciver-Brunt, who anchored the innings with a sensational 80* off 59 balls. Harmanpreet Kaur provided some fireworks at the other end with a blistering 42(22), but the lack of substantial partnerships meant Mumbai posted a modest 164. Annabel Sutherland (3/34) and Shikha Pandey (2/14), who delivered a fiery opening spell, were the standout bowlers for Delhi Capitals.
Delhi’s chase started on a high, courtesy of Shafali Verma’s explosive 18-ball 43. Her opening partnership of 60 runs with skipper Meg Lanning (15) laid a strong foundation during the powerplay. However, Melie Kerr’s double strike, removing Jemimah Rodrigues (2) and Alice Capsey (16), brought Mumbai back into the contest.
Niki Prasad, fresh from leading India U19 to World Cup glory, played a composed knock of 35(33) to steady Delhi’s innings. Sarah Bryce chipped in with a crucial 21(10) to keep the chase alive, while Radha Yadav’s powerful six in the penultimate over narrowed the equation.
With two runs needed off the final ball, Arundhati Reddy walked in to bat. Her lofted shot over covers barely cleared Harmanpreet Kaur, but the pair scampered back for a tight second run, sealing a dramatic victory for Delhi Capitals.
Fans were enthralled by yet another WPL thriller, also showering praise on the emerging talent Niki Prasad for her maturity under pressure. Social media was abuzz with reactions, with many hailing her as the unsung hero of the night. Here are some of the best fan reactions:
