Like many teams in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) this season, 2025, the UP Warriorz have also been a victim of injuries, losing their captain Alyssa Healy right before the season opener, forcing them to hand over the captaincy to Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma. The Warriorz have built their team around a strong international contingent, an overview of which has been given below.

Chamari Athapaththu
Chamari Athapaththu is a Sri Lanka trailblazer and a T20 legend. An all-rounder, Athapaththu strikes at a whopping 110.01 and has also taken 60+ wickets in T20 Internationals. Athapaththu is a franchise cricket veteran having played across every major league there exists. From the WBBL to The Hundred and now the WPL she has seen it all. Having signed with the UP Warriorz in 2024, she has played 4 matches for the team, and while accumulated only 28 runs, she struck 3 wickets.
Alana King
Alana King is an Australian bowling all-rounder. Having taken 24 wickets, King bowls with an economy of 6.41 in T20 International cricket. A seasoned spinner, she has featured in marquee leagues around the globe, The Hundred and the Women’s Big Bash League, scalping 126 wickets from 114 WBBL outings, and also chipping in scoring 641 runs. Her stint this year will be her first-ever appearance in the WPL.
Grace Harris
Grace Harris is an Australian all-rounder known for her batting prowess. Her T20I statistics include a whopping strike rate of 155.52, whilst maintaining a bowling economy of 5.74. Harris is a Brisbane Heat legend in the WBBL and has also left an impact on the WPL, amassing 418 runs from 13 innings, at a strike rate of 150.90.
Sophie Ecclestone
Sophie Ecclestone is an English spinner who has taken over 130 wickets at an economy of 5.87 across her T20I career. Ecclestone is another T20 legend, having played for multiple franchise teams. As one of the highest wicket takers for the Warriorz, she has not only kept a consistent tally of 27 wickets but also maintained a batting strike rate of 114, contributing with invaluable lower order runs.
Tahlia McGrath
The Australian all-rounder strikes at 132.07 in T20Is, scoring over 1000 runs and has also taken 20 wickets, maintaining an economy rate of 8.01. McGrath, like her Australian teammate Harris, is a regular in the WBBL and The Hundred, and holds a legendary status within the Adelaide Strikers for leading them to back-to-back WBBL titles. Her WPL career includes the highest score of 90, whilst maintaining a strike rate of 146.22, with 329 runs from 12 WPL outings, while also taking 3 wickets.
Chinelle Henry
Chinelle Henry, the West Indies all-rounder has scored 473 runs and taken 22 wickets from 62 T20Is. Henry hasn’t had much exposure to franchise cricket having played only in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League so far. Having made her way to the WPL as Alyssa Healy’s replacement, Henry will be playing her first-ever WPL season.
