As WPL 2025 is just a heartbeat away, the Delhi Capitals camp is buzzing with excitement. With their training sessions in full swing, the team has shifted into high gear and have put their game face on. Capitals are leaving no stone unturned in their preparation as they aim to overcome their past disappointments, failing to cross the final hurdle in the last two seasons.

The team began their training sessions in Pune a few days before, with players like Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav, Taniyaa Bhatiya, Sarah Bryce and Marizanne Kapp in attendance. A day before, the Delhi Capital players gave a warm welcome to the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup champion, Niki Prasad. Niki, who led India to the U-19 World Cup win was one of the young Indian talents picked up by Delhi Capitals in the auction, alongside other promising players like Nandini Kashyap and N Chiarini.
However, the Delhi Capitals fans were eagerly awaiting the arrival of their champion captain, Meg Lanning. Capitals built up the excitement with a fun announcement video set to the iconic song “Main Hoon Don”, where Lanning made a grand entry, confidently declaring, “Captain’s in the house”.
The franchise then doubled the hype by following up with a striking picture of Lanning, simply captioned “Definition of Aura”, perfectly capturing the powerful presence and leadership she brings to the team.
Australian stalwart, Meg Lanning, former captain of the national women’s team has led Delhi Capitals in the last two WPL seasons. In the last season, she scored 331 runs, finishing as the second highest run scorer of the tournament, only behind RCB’s Ellyse Perry.
In the inaugural season (2023), she topped the charts with her 345 runs, winning the orange cap. Despite her brilliant performances, Lanning is yet to lead Delhi to a title victory. They lost the finals to Mumbai in 2023, and produced a similar story in 2024, losing to Bengaluru.
With a strategic decision to blend youth and experience, the Delhi Capitals have assembled a strong team. By picking up young Indian talents like Niki, Nandini and Chiarini, Scottish wicket-keeper batter, Sarah Bryce and retaining their core players like Lanning, Sutherland, Jemimah, Marizanne, Shafali and Radha, Delhi have maintained a well-balanced squad under the mentorship of the head coach, Jonathan Batty.
They are all set to face inaugural champions, Mumbai Indians, on 15th February, in Vadodara, following the season opener between Bengaluru and Gujarat on February 14.
