The Orange Cap is a distinguished recognition for the player who scores the most runs by the end of the season in WPL. Most players start the tournament with big scores for their side but only a few are likely to sustain with the consistency factor. The Orange Cap is the award for the player who manages to compile runs throughout the season rather than in a few games. The player who outwits the rest of the players in the league and finishes top on the run-scoring charts gets the Orange Cap in WPL.

Ellyse Perry

Ellyse Perry one of the greatest all-rounders just got her hands on another award in WPL 2024 by scoring 347 runs in the 9 matches she played. Perry didn’t start the season as she would have wanted, but coming into the tournament she played some vital knocks following that. Despite having an off start in the 1st game, Perry found herself in runs in the next match itself scoring a quick-fire 23*(14) and 44*(38) in the next game vs Mumbai Indians in her comeback match after not playing against Delhi Capitals due to illness. In the last match of the Bengaluru leg, Perry scored her season’ 1st fifty against UP Warriorz scoring 58(37) and also breaking the glass of a car in the stadium. Delhi leg was all about Ellyse Perry where she scored 24(23), 49(32), 40*(38), 66(50), 35*(37). Her crucial knock in the last league game against Mumbai Indians proved to be vital in closing the game early after her heroics with the ball scalping 6 wickets in the 4 overs giving only 15 runs and turning out with the best spell of WPL. Being a big match player Perry didn’t disappoint in the eliminator when RCB was in trouble scoring 66(50) and making RCB reach a competitive total after which she also defended it well along with the other bowlers taking a wicket and being economical. Perry ended the tournament by scoring an important 35* runs in the final to take RCB over the line for the 1st time in WPL.

Meg Lanning

Meg Lanning the Australian stalwart was no less in scoring runs this season once again scoring 331 runs in the 9 matches she played. It was just a matter of a few runs between her and the orange cap. Leading her side from the front at the top of the order scoring 4 50s in the season and also becoming the 1st player to score 3 consecutive 50s in the WPL. Had an amazing run throughout the season with a minimum score of 11 runs and nearly gave good starts to Delhi Capitals in most of the matches with some catching scores of 51(43) against the UP Warriorz, and then the 3 consecutive 50+ scores of 55(41), 53(38), 60(46). It was quite unfortunate for her that she had to end up on the losing side in the WPL 2024 finals but should be proud of her performance throughout the season.

Shafali Verma

Shafali Verma a young Indian stepping up for her team at the top of the order with some amazing match-defining performances in the season scoring a total of 309 runs in 9 games. Shafali was primarily known for her long-range hitting at a high strike rate and a few of her notable performances came in important matches like 64*(43) against the UP Warriorz, 50(31) vs RCB, 71(37) against Gujarat Giants when DC required a win for a comfortable slot in the final and then the impactful innings of 44(27) in the summit clash against the RCB

Smriti Mandhana

Smriti Mandhana the RCB captain who was in the spotlight after not having the inaugural season as she would have wanted stepped up in the title triumph season 2 for her team giving good starts at the top and scoring a total of 300 runs. Seeing her notable performances, she scored a quickfire 43(27) in just the 2nd game against the Gujarat Giants and in the following game with a 74(49) vs Delhi Capitals which was also her maiden WPL fifty, and an 80(50) vs UP Warriorz. In the final clash against the Delhi Capitals, she scored a vital 31 runs in the run chase and had a big hand in her team winning the WPL title.

Deepti Sharma

Deepti Sharma the Indian all-rounder showed her skills with the bat and ball after performing primarily with the bat in WPL 2023 scoring 295 runs this season. Notably her performances improved as the season went on, and also when she was promoted up the order, and she also became the 1st Indian player to score 3 consecutive 50s in WPL with scores of 53*(36) VS Mumbai Indians, 59(48) against the Delhi Capitals and in the same match she took a hat-trick becoming the 1st Indian to do so and 2nd overall and ended the season with career-best 88*(60). For her all-round performances in WPL 2024, Deepti Sharma was also awarded the MVP of the season.
