In the 18th match of the 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL) between Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, the former won a close game after heroics from Deepti Sharma went in vain.

Beth Mooney won the toss and elected to bat first as it has been the trend in Delhi-leg so far. Gujarat Giants openers Laura Wolvaardt and Beth Mooney gave a good start at the top again with a partnership of 60 runs. Notably, this season, the pair have scored 258 runs in partnership from 5 outings, at an average of 51.6 with one fifty and one-century run stands each.

Beth Mooney finished not out in the innings at 74 runs, scoring her 3rd consecutive fifty in WPL 2024, and happens to be only the 2nd player to do so after Meg Lanning. Mooney powered Gujarat Giants to a competitive total of 152 runs at the loss of 8 wickets.

When UP Warriorz came in to bat they had to chase down the total in nearly 14.3 overs to go over RCB in NRR, but Gujarat bowlers, 16-year-old Shabnam Shakil in particular, had some other plans as they created havoc at the top, reducing UP Warriorz to 35-5 in 7 overs.

Post that it was a great effort shown by Deepti Sharma who played an outstanding hand to keep UP Warriorz in the game, alongside Poonam Khemnar. The duo went on to stitch a 100-run partnership, the 1st for the 6th wicket in WPL. Deepti Sharma scored her 3rd consecutive fifty becoming the 1st Indian to do so and 3rd overall after Meg Lanning and Beth Mooney. She scored her career-best 88*(60) but unfortunately, ended on the losing side.
