Mumbai Indians win a thriller, making the way even more difficult for Gujarat Giants ahead in WPL 2024. In the 16th match between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the game turned out to be a record-breaking run chase. To start with Beth Mooney elected to bat 1st after winning the toss. Gujarat Giants got off to a great start scoring 52 runs in the power play at the loss of 1 wicket. Dayalan Hemalatha and Beth Mooney went on to stitch a 100-run partnership for the 2nd wicket, which also turned out to be 2 consecutive 100-run partnerships for Gujarat Giants after none before in WPL for any wicket.

At the end of the 1st innings, Gujarat Giants scored 190 runs at a loss of 7 wickets, which would also be the highest target ever to chase in WPL. Mumbai Indians got off to a decent start in the powerplay scoring 50 runs. Yastika Bhatia missed her well-deserved fifty by one run. The situation got a bit worse for the Mumbai Indians in the middle overs when they required 91 runs in the 6 overs with captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Amelia Kerr at the crease. Following that was a total carnage innings from the captain Harmanpreet who also scored her 5th WPL fifty, the most by an Indian. In that 6 overs, it was the 15th over from Meghna Singh and the 18th from Sneh Rana where Harmanpreet Kaur went all over the park scoring 19 and 24 runs respectively. Following the 2 big overs, the task looked quite doable for the Mumbai Indians and they went on to chase down the target with a ball left by 7 wickets, It was also the 1st time in WPL 2024 that a team won while chasing in Delhi. With that Mumbai also won 9 out of 10 games while chasing in WPL and confirmed their top 2 finish in WPL 2024 points table.
