Delhi Capitals end RCB’s winning streak, beating them by 25 Runs

In the 7th match of the WPL 2024 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on the 29th of February, Delhi Capitals went on to win by 25 runs with a clinical performance with the bat and ball overall.

Delhi Capitals went on to score the highest score of WPL 2024 so far of 194 runs at the loss of 5 wickets with some heroics in the top order from Shafali Verma 50(31), Alice Capsey 46(33), and some range-hitting at the end by Marizanne Kapp 32(16), Jess Jonassen 36(16) who was playing her 1st match of the season alongside Nadine De Klerk of RCB who managed to scalp 2 wickets giving 35 runs in her 4 overs spell.

For a slow over-rate RCB was penalized to keep a fielder in the 25-yard circle in the final over. The 2nd wicket partnership for Shafali Verma and Alice Capsey was also the highest of the season with all 1st three-wicket highest partnerships now with the Delhi Capitals.

Chasing a steep target of 195 runs, the RCB openers Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine got off to a perfect start in the powerplay and only the 2nd time that RCB didn’t lose a wicket in the powerplay, the last time when this happened RCB went on to chase the highest score of WPL of 189 against Gujarat Giants.

Following the power play, Smriti Mandhana went on to score her maiden fifty of WPL and there happened a coincidence i.e.

In WPL 2023: No 50+ Score for Smriti Mandhana

In WPL 2024: Smriti Mandhana scored his Maiden WPL 50 in the 3rd Match of the Season.

Later in the innings Smriti went on to score 74(43) and got out bowled to the delivery of Marizanne Kapp in the 12th over. After the wicket of Smriti Mandhana RCB lost constant wickets in the innings with the required run rate going up continuously and eventually lost the match by 25 runs
