Bio:

Saika Ishaque’s cricketing journey started when she was first picked to represent the Bengal under-16 side. She has gone from strength and represented the under-23 as well as the senior side for Bengal. Her success with the Bengal side saw her getting selected for East-Zone where she claimed 7 wickets in 4 games.

Before being bought by Mumbai Indians in the auction before the 2023 WPL, her first exposure to international players came in the Women’s T20 Challenge.

Saika Ishaque was picked by Mumbai Indians in the 2023 auction for a price of INR 10 Lakhs, and she proved her weight in gold for the franchise. In her debut season, she picked up 15 wickets in 10 matches, displaying a masterclass in spin bowling. Apart from being a wicket-taker, Saika is a very economical bowler. She carried her good form into the domestic season where she claimed 18 wickets at a miserly economy of 4.22.

After her Player of the Match performance against Delhi Capitals, Saika said ”Bowler hoon, Wicket, Lene aayi hu.” when being interviewed in the post-match presentation. Her statement showed not only her confidence in her skills but also her dedication to the game.
Owing to her exploits in the previous edition of the WPL, Saika was handed her ODI and T20I debut against Australia earlier this year. She concluded the three-match T20I series with 5 wickets, claiming best figures of 3/22.
