Fifties from Nigar, Fargana and Sharmin power Bangladesh to 276/6

The Bangladesh openers Fargana Hoque and Ishma Tanjim got their side off to a decent start with a 35-run opening partnership after skipper Nigar Sultana Joty won the toss and opted to bat first. Priyanaz Chatterji picked up the wicket of Ishma Tanjim in the 9th over of the innings to provide the first breakthrough for Scotland in the 9th over of the innings.

Sharmin Akhter joined Fargana Hoque at the crease and the duo stitched a massive 103-run partnership for the 2nd wicket, taking them closer to the 150-run mark. Skipper Kathryn Bryce broke the ominous stand by sending Sharmin Akhter (57 off 79 balls) back to the pavilion in the 30th over of the innings, to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side. She completed a composed half-century before getting dismissed.

Bangladesh kept losing wickets at regular intervals before a vital 61-run partnership for the 6th wicket between Fahima Khatun and skipper Nigar Sultana Joty propelled them to 276/6 in their quota of 50 overs. It also happens to be their highest-ever total in the ODI format. Skipper Nigar Sultana Joty stayed unbeaten on a counter-attacking half-century (83* off 59 balls), and Fargana Hoque (57 off 84 balls), was another half-centurion in the Bangladesh innings with the bat. Fahima Khatun (26 off 22 balls) chipped in with a vital contribution with the bat, lower down the order for her side.

Scotland lower order fights back, but Bangladesh hold their nerve for a win

Chasing a challenging total of 276, Scotland lost their top order inside the powerplay, including the wicket of their skipper Kathryn Bryce. Ailsa Lister joined wicket-keeper batter Sarah Bryce at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 47-run partnership for the 4th wicket to lead some sort of a recovery for their side. An unfortunate run-out ended Ailsa Lister’s stay at the crease, providing the 4th breakthrough for Bangladesh in the 17th over of the run chase.

Scotland suffered a mini collapse as they lost their next three wickets for just 32 runs, bringing Bangladesh firmly back into the contest. Rachel Slater joined Priyanaz Chatterji at the crease and the pair refused to give up as they put the cats amongst the pigeons with a spirited 115-run partnership for the 8th wicket, taking them closer to the 230-run mark.

Nahida Akter broke the ominous stand with double strikes sending Priyanaz Chatterji (61 off 63 balls), and Chloe Abel for a golden duck back to the pavilion in the 48th over of the run chase, wrestling the control back to Bangladesh. Scotland were eventually restricted to 242/9 in their quota of 50 overs, as a result, falling 34 runs short of the target.

Wicket-keeper batter Sarah Bryce (42 off 58 balls), Ailsa Lister (18 off 29 balls) and Pippa Sproul (17 off 24 balls) were the only other batters to enter the double digits with the bat for Scotland.

Nahida Akter (10-0-40-4) was the stand-out performer with the ball, while Jannatul Ferdus (10-0-43-2), Rabeya Khan (10-0-33-1) and Marufa Akter (5-1-19-1) were exceptional with the ball for Bangladesh. Skipper Nigar Sultana Joty was awarded the Player of the Match for her sensational unbeaten half-century (83* off 59 balls), playing a crucial role as Bangladesh topped the table with a hattrick of victories.
