Nigar Sultana Joty produced a career-defining knock to guide Bangladesh Women to their highest-ever ODI total of 271/3 against Thailand Women in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2025 at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground.

Electing to field first, Thailand found themselves under immense pressure as Nigar Sultana, the Bangladesh skipper, delivered a captain’s masterclass. Scoring her maiden international century, Joty struck 101 off just 80 deliveries, smashing 15 fours and one six at a blistering strike rate of 126.25.
This landmark century was not only her personal best but also a historic one — it became the fastest century ever scored in Pakistan in Women’s ODIs, surpassing Chamari Athapaththu’s 101 off 85 balls against Pakistan in Karachi (June 2022).
This was Joty’s 49th innings from 54 ODIs, and she now boasts a total of 1,177 runs, with today’s innings standing tall as her best to date.
After an early setback with Ishma Tanjim departing for 8 in the fourth over, Fargana Hoque and Sharmin Akhter steadied the ship. Fargana contributed a fluent 53 off 82 balls before falling in the 28th over.
What followed was a potential match-defining partnership between Joty and Sharmin, who stitched together 152 runs for the third wicket — the highest partnership for Bangladesh in Women’s ODI history. Joty fell on the penultimate ball of the innings, while Sharmin remained unbeaten on a composed 94 off 126 balls.

Thailand’s bowling attack found little success in breaking partnerships. Thipatcha Putthawong (1/41 from 10 overs), Phannita Maya (1/28 from 6 overs), and Onnicha Kamchomphu (1/58 from 9 overs) were the only wicket-takers.
Bangladesh ended the first innings at 271, setting Thailand a formidable target of 272 to chase. To have an upper hand in the tournament, Thailand will need to pull off their best-ever run chase under pressure.
