In the ongoing U-23 Women’s Cricket Tournament, Kerala earlier defeated Mumbai with 7 wickets to enter the knockout stage. Kerala has now made it to the Quarter-Finals of the tournament winning 5 out of the last 8 league games.
In the Semi-Final match played earlier this week, Kerala won the toss and decided to field first. Mumbai came down to bat and could not score more than 100 as they were all sent back to the pavilion in just 92 runs in 43.4 overs Only two of Mumbai batters managed to reached double figures Shaheen (21) and M.Dakshini (23). Kerala chased the target quite easily in 34.1 overs, while Minnu Mani of Kerala bagged four wickets, Aneena Mathew took three and Keerthy Kames dismissed two.
Kerala coach Suman Sharma was pleased with the effort of the team. “As a team, they are developing. Earlier, bowling used to be our main strength. Now in this tournament, there were contributions from the batters too in key moments. The girls have been playing good cricket for the last few years and they have improved technically and mentally a lot,” she said.
Kerala has played 8 matches and won 5 out of them while one game being abandoned.
