The Sri Lankan skipper Chamodi Praboda won the toss and opted to bat first in the game against England. The Sri Lankan openers Vimoksha Balasuriya and Sanjana Kavindi in particular got them off to a flying start with a 41-run opening partnership. Malisha Tennakoon broke the stand by sending Vimoksha Balasuriya back to the pavilion in the 5th over of the innings, providing the much-needed 1st breakthrough for England. Umayangana Peiris joined Sanjana Kavindi at the crease, and the duo stitched a 21-run partnership for the 2nd wicket.

Venus Weerappuli cleaned up Umayangana Peiris in the 8th over of the innings to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side. A vital 26-run partnership for the 4th wicket between Shashini Gimhani and Nethagi Isuranjali took them past the 100-run mark. Shashini Gimhani’s (12 off 15 balls) departure in the 15th over of the innings proved to be a crucial phase of the game for the Lankans. Shristi Patil provided the vital 4th breakthrough for England.

The Chamodi Praboda-led side just managed 30 runs in the last five overs, while losing a couple of wickets, as they ended up with a decent total of 136/6 in their quota of 20 overs. Sanjana Kavindi (45 off 33 balls), Nethagi Isuranjali (25 off 27 balls), Limansa Thilakarathne (14* off 18 balls), and Danodya Sewmini (11* off 8 balls) chipped in with handy contributions with the bat for Sri Lanka. There were as many as 20 extras in the innings.

Chasing a target of 137, the England openers, Eliza Bristowe and Olivia Cunliffe, got their side off to a steady start with a 22-run opening partnership. Skipper Chamodi Praboda picked up the wicket of Eliza Bristowe (10 off 9 balls) to provide the first breakthrough for her side. She struck yet again to remove Shristi Patil in the same over to reduce England to 24/2 in the 4th over of the run chase.

Prarthana Reddy joined skipper Genevieve Jeer in the 5th over with England 3 down in the chase. The duo revived the English hopes with a much-needed 36-run partnership for the 4th wicket, which also took them past the 50-run mark.

Limansa Thilakarthne broke the stand by sending Prarthana Reddy (16 off 21 balls) in the 11th over of the run chase, providing the much-needed 4th breakthrough for Sri Lanka. England kept losing wickets at regular intervals, reducing them to 95/8 and then losing their next four wickets for just 33 runs. A breezy cameo from Clara Thaker (20 off 9 balls) almost snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat for England. However, it wasn’t to be as they were eventually bundled out for 128 with four balls to spare, falling 8 runs short of the target.

Skipper Genevieve Jeer (23 off 24 balls) and Bea Willis (21 off 15 balls) chipped in with vital contributions with the bat for England. Skipper Chamodi Praboda (4-0-32-3), Limansa Thilakarathne (4-0-26-3), and Aseni Thalagune (4-0-17-2) were the top performers with the ball for Sri Lanka. Limansa Thilakarathne was awarded the Player of the Match for her impressive all-round contributions, scoring 14* (18 balls) with the bat and (4-0-26-3) with the ball for Sri Lanka.
