Pakistan had a winning start to their campaign in the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, defeating Sri Lanka by 31 runs. However, they faced back-to-back losses against India and Australia, by 6 wickets and 9 wickets, respectively. In their most recent match against Australia, Aliya Riaz contributed a 32-ball 26, which pushed their team total to 82. Unfortunately, in defense, only Sadia Iqbal managed to take a wicket as Australia cruised to a comfortable 9-wicket victory with 54 balls to spare.
Meanwhile, New Zealand also started their campaign on a positive note, securing a 58-run win over India. However, they faced a setback with a heavy 60-run defeat against Australia, but rebounded strongly in their next match against Sri Lanka, with standout performances from their spinners. Melie Kerr (2/13), Leigh Kasperek (3/27), and Eden Carson (1/19) played crucial roles in restricting Sri Lanka to 115/5. Georgia Plimmer’s impressive 53, along with contributions from Kerr (34*), Suzie Bates (17), and Sophie Devine (13*), propelled New Zealand to an 8-wicket win.
Head-to-head in T20Is, Pakistan has managed only a couple of wins out of 11 games against New Zealand, who lead with 9 wins. Notably, Pakistan achieved their first-ever series win against New Zealand late last year, with back-to-back wins. In their last four T20Is, each team has won two matches.
