Bangladesh opened their 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup campaign with a 16-run win over Scotland but struggled afterward, facing defeats to England by 21 runs and West Indies by 8 wickets. In their most recent match against the West Indies, captain Nigar Sultana Joty top-scored with 39 (44), while contributions from Dilara Akter (19), Sobhana Mostary (16), and Ritu Moni helped push the team total to 103/8. However, Bangladesh’s bowling effort was very ordinary, as they claimed just two wickets, losing the game in 12.5 overs.
South Africa, after a strong 10-wicket win in their opener against West Indies, rebounded from a loss to England with a dominant performance against Scotland. Their top-order, led by Laura Wolvaardt (40), Tazmin Brits (43), and Marizanne Kapp (43), powered the team to 166/5 against Scotland. In defence, Nonkululeko Mlaba’s 3/12, along with contributions from Chloe Tryon (2/22) and Nadine de Klerk (2/15), sealed an emphatic 80-run victory for South Africa.
Head-to-head in T20Is, South Africa has won 11 of 14 matches against Bangladesh, with two losses and one game not yielding a result. Their most recent bilateral series late last year ended in a 1-1 draw, with a game washed out.
