After winning the toss, skipper Alyssa Healy elected to bat first on a sluggish surface at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Healy gave Australia a brisk start with a lively 26 off 20 balls before falling in the powerplay. Despite her early departure, Australia appeared well-positioned to post a big total at 109 for 2 in the 14th over, with Beth Mooney anchoring the innings with a solid 40 off 32, and Ellyse Perry chipping in with a useful 30 off 24.

However, Amelia Kerr’s outstanding spell with her deceptive wrong ‘uns turned the tide. She was the standout performer, taking 4 for 26 and putting a brake on Australia’s scoring. Despite the middle-order collapse, Australia managed to post 148 for 8, the highest total at the venue in the tournament so far.

Chasing a target of 149, New Zealand faced an early setback with Georgia Plimmer’s dismissal, and despite Amelia Kerr’s determined effort, her 29 off 31 was the only innings of note. The rest of the lineup found it difficult to keep up with the rising required run rate. Suzie Bates struggled to find her rhythm, managing only 20 from 27 deliveries before being dismissed. Australia’s bowlers kept things tight, with Megan Schutt, Sophie Molineux, and Annabel Sutherland sharing eight wickets between them, maintaining control throughout the chase.

Megan Schutt was rightfully awarded her second Player of the Match title for her exceptional bowling display of 3 for 3, which set up Australia’s dominant win. On the social media platform “X” (previously known as Twitter), fans praised Schutt’s outstanding performance along with Beth Mooney and Ellyse Perry’s composed batting. Amelia Kerr’s resilient all-round effort also received recognition.
