Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the Indian side, while Smriti Mandhana will serve as her deputy for the tournament. The Indian team is placed in Group A alongside the defending champions, Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand. India will play their opening tournament match against New Zealand on October 4th at the Dubai International Stadium.

India’s 15-player squad consists of a mix of experienced players and youngsters, including a few who have delivered impressive performances in the Women’s Premier League. Players like Asha Sobhana, Shreyanka Patil, and Sajeevan Sajana have been rewarded with selection in India’s squad. However, Yastika Bhatia and Shreyanka Patil’s inclusion is subject to their fitness.

Following the announcement of India’s squad, former cricketers and many fans reacted on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter).

Former Indian cricketer Anjum Chopra emphasized the reasons why certain players, such as Sobhana, Radha Yadav, and Dayalan Hemalatha, were not included in the India A squad for their tour of Australia. She highlighted that competitive match practice against top-level teams helps players adapt to different playing conditions.

While fans acknowledged the batting depth in India’s squad as a competitive edge in the World Cup, they also noted that the team will have to perform above expectations in the bowling and fielding departments.

Many appreciated the benefits of continuity in the squad while also suggesting the potential value of including Amanjot Kaur. Some were surprised by the inclusion of players like Dayalan Hemalatha and Sajeevan Sajana, who did not make a significant impact in the Women’s Asia Cup, though there was also an appreciation for the consistency in the selection within the squad.
