3rd place play-off: Ireland takes 3rd Spot as they defeat PNG Women by 8 Wickets

Key Performers –

1) E Richardson – The off-spinner from Dublin continued to have a good tournament. She was again into the wickets column picking up 3 key wickets of PNG, she had the match figures of 3 for 9 with an economy rate of 3.

2) Kim Garth – The batting all-rounder was good with both bat and ball as she picked up 2 wickets with the ball and scored a needful 29 runs.

Summary

An all-round performance from Kim Garth helped Ireland to secure 3rd spot in the ICC qualifiers tournament by defeating PNG by 8 wickets at Dundee on Saturday.

Winning the toss, Ireland opted to bowl. PNG batters failed to provide a good start as they lost 3 wickets in the power-play itself and they were off to a very slow start. Credits to the Irish bowlers as they bowled really well. Especially Kim Garth and Richardson picked 2 and 3 wickets respectively, they have been the most consistent performers for Ireland in this tournament.

Oala at the end with her hard-hitting she scored 33 which helped PNG to reach a  score of 85 for 8 in 20 overs.

Chasing a small target of 86, though opener Lewis got out soon, Stokell and Garth took the responsibility of chase and they had a partnership of 50 runs. Kim Garth lost her wicket at 29. Though PNG got her wicket, it was almost over for them as Ireland needed just 21 more runs to win with 10 overs left, then Stokell took the charge and completed the chase successfully in 11.1 overs.

With this win Ireland ends on 3rd position, they will be definitely disappointed to be at 3 as they were one of the favorites to win the tournament, whereas PNG will try to come back harder next time.
