The Perth Scorchers secured a comfortable five-wicket win against the Adelaide Strikers in Semi-Final 1 of the T20 Spring Challenge at Cricket Central in Sydney. After winning the toss and electing to field, the Scorchers kept a tight leash on the Strikers, restricting them to an under-par total of 116/6 in their allotted 20 overs. In response, Perth timed their run chase nicely, overhauling the target to finish at 118/5 in 18 overs. With two full overs to spare, the Scorchers booked their place in the tournament final with a well-measured all-round display.

Adelaide found themselves under pressure right from the opening powerplay after losing early wickets, forcing them into a recovery job. Opener Ellie Johnston struggled for rhythm, managing just 3 off 15 balls, while Emma de Broughe fell cheaply to leave the Strikers reeling. Eleanor Larosa anchored the innings, top-scoring with a patient 51 off 57 balls featuring four boundaries. She found decent support in Madeline Penna, who struck a lively 36 off 34 deliveries with three fours and two sixes. The pair put together a crucial 50-run partnership for the third wicket, but Adelaide failed to hit top gear late in the innings, collecting only 16 runs off the last three overs.

Perth’s bowlers set up the victory with a disciplined performance, rarely offering room to free the arms. Right-arm pacer Chloe Ainsworth broke the back of Adelaide’s lineup, returning impressive figures of 3/17 from her four overs. Taneale Peschel (1/21) and Ebony Hoskin (1/6) offered reliable support, while off-spinner Amy Edgar kept things tight in the middle overs, conceding just 18 runs from her four overs. Their collective work prevented the Strikers from building momentum, leaving Perth with a straightforward target to chase.

The Scorchers suffered an early blow in the chase when high-flying opener Katie Mack fell for 8 off 5 balls. However, Chloe Piparo took charge of the innings with a calm and composed knock at the top. Piparo anchored the chase with a fine 57 off 57 deliveries, hitting six boundaries to keep the scoreboard ticking along smoothly. Ines McKeon provided the spark in the middle, hitting a quickfire 30 off 26 balls with two fours and two sixes. Their 50-run stand off 45 balls broke the back of the run chase and put Perth well ahead of the required rate.

Adelaide tried to fight back through leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington, who picked up 2/15 in her 2.6 overs, alongside an economical effort from Eleanor Larosa. However, defending 116 was always going to be an uphill task on a reliable deck. Despite a brief flurry of wickets toward the back end, Perth’s batters held their nerve to cross the line comfortably in the 18th over. The Scorchers will now carry plenty of momentum into the championship final after a thoroughly professional performance.

Having outclassed Adelaide in every facet of the game, the Perth Scorchers have firmly established themselves as the team to beat. Their clinical, all-round efficiency sets up a tantalizing final where they will look to bring home the silverware.
