Here’s an excerpt from the Interview chat:

1. How did you keep yourself fit during the lockdown?

We had training programs we had to adhere to. It included a lot of home workouts and runs.

2. Last month Cricket South Africa set up a training camp for the women’s team but the series against England got canceled? How disappointing was it to be so close to playing an international series?

Obviously very disappointing to not travel to England, but at the end of the day, the safety and well-being of players are important.

3. What was your reaction when you got the news about your selection for Velocity in the Women’s T20 Challenge?

I was excited when I heard the news. It is great to have two South Africans represent our country to the best of our ability in an international T20 competition. I’m really looking forward to it.

4. You will be a part of the Velocity outfit, the team that is led by one of the greatest legends of women’s cricket; Mithali Raj. How excited are you to play under her?

Mithali is a legend of the game. I’ll probably be a bit starstruck at first, but I’m sure the experience is going to be amazing.

5. How are you preparing yourself for the Women’s T20 Challenge? Any particular areas where you are focusing more?

Looking at the men’s IPL at the moment and the games being played at Sharjah, it’s looking quite slow. So I’ve been focusing on getting myself into good positions to generate pace and score runs.

6. T20 is known to be a batsman’s game. Have you been working on strengthening your armory to get the better of the batters?

There is still room for quality bowlers in the T20 format. The most important part for me is just to keep the runs down and try and strike wherever I can.

7. What do you feel could tournaments like Women’s T20 Challenge and WBBL do for the overall ecosystem?

It definitely increases the competitiveness of the game. Provincial players all around the world get to play with international players which makes them better and stronger as well.

8. One bowler that you are very much looking forward to face? One batter that you are excited to bowl to and why?

Definitely looking forward to batting against my Proteas teammate Ayabonga Khaka. I played with Harmanpreet Kaur in the Super League last year and it was always a good challenge in the nets, so it should be fun again.

9. Wouldn’t it be great to have few international players participating in South Africa’s Women’s T20 Super League that was launched last year? Pick 5 overseas Players you would love to see them playing Women’s T20 Super League.

It would definitely increase the awareness of the league as well as the standard of cricket. I can’t pick my favorites because all around the world the girls are in great form, so I’m sure whoever would come will be a great addition.

10. How excited are you to regroup and make new friends in UAE?

Beyond excited! I think the cricket element is obviously the best part of it, but getting to travel and experience new cultures and meet new people is the other great part of playing cricket.
