The innings began cautiously for Surrey Women, but the opening stand never really settled as captain Bryony Smith looked positive despite wickets falling around her. Smith struck three boundaries during her 17-ball 19 before becoming the third wicket to fall. Surrey suffered an early setback when Paige Scholfield managed just 1 from nine deliveries, while Laura Harris played a brisk cameo of 10 off only four balls, including a boundary and a six, before departing.

Wicketkeeper Jemima Spence also made a quick 11 from nine balls, ensuring Surrey maintained momentum despite losing wickets at regular intervals. By the time Spence was dismissed, Surrey had slipped to 45/4, with The Blaze bowlers firmly on top after consistently breaking partnerships. The turning point of the innings came through an outstanding rebuilding effort led by Alice Monaghan and Phoebe Franklin.

Monaghan anchored the innings beautifully with 35 from 27 deliveries, striking five boundaries, while Franklin counterattacked with a superb 46 off just 30 balls, smashing eight fours at a strike rate above 153. Their excellent 82-run partnership for the sixth wicket transformed Surrey’s innings from a difficult position into a commanding one.

Franklin’s fluent strokeplay shifted the momentum completely, while Monaghan rotated the strike effectively to frustrate The Blaze bowlers. After Monaghan departed with the score at 127/5, Franklin soon followed at 129/6, but the damage had already been done.

The late overs still produced useful contributions. Kalea Moore chipped in with 15 from 12 balls, adding valuable runs before becoming the eighth wicket. Alice Davidson-Richards remained unbeaten on 8, while Priyanaz Chatterji scored 1 before being run out. Ryana MacDonald-Gay was dismissed without scoring, and Surrey eventually completed their 20 overs on 155/9, a total that looked highly competitive considering they had been reduced to 45/5 earlier in the innings.

The Blaze bowlers shared the workload effectively despite the crucial Monaghan-Franklin stand. Charli Knott was the standout performer, claiming 6 wickets for 25 runs in four overs. Kirstie Gordon delivered another economical spell, taking 1/30 from four overs, while Kathryn Bryce finished with 1/27. Georgia Elwiss picked up the important wicket of Kalea Moore and ended with 1/33.

Maria Andrews claimed Bryony Smith despite conceding 23 runs in two overs, while Emma Jones and Josie Groves chipped in with one over each, with Jones dismissing Paige Scholfield.

Chasing 156, The Blaze endured the worst possible start as Marie Kelly was run out for a first-ball duck with the score at 1/0. The early setback put immediate pressure on the chase, but Tammy Beaumont and Kathryn Bryce responded with a composed 55-run partnership for the second wicket. Beaumont accumulated 37 from 36 deliveries, hitting four boundaries, while Bryce played aggressively for her 31 off 21 balls, including six fours.

Their stand briefly revived the chase before Bryce was stumped by Jemima Spence off Ryana MacDonald-Gay, shifting momentum back towards Surrey. Following Bryce’s dismissal, Charli Knott added 28 from 23 balls and shared a 42-run partnership with Beaumont to keep The Blaze in contention. However, Surrey continued striking at regular intervals.

With wickets tumbling consistently, The Blaze were bowled out for 121/10 in 19 overs, finishing 34 runs short of the target.

Surrey’s bowling attack operated collectively throughout the chase. Kalea Moore produced the best figures with 5 wickets for 22 runs in four overs. Priyanaz Chatterji was impressive, taking 1/25, while Danielle Gregory bowled with excellent control to finish with 1/23, removing Emma Jones and Maria Andrews. Ryana MacDonald-Gay claimed the crucial wicket of Kathryn Bryce and returned figures of 1/27, while Laura Harris impressed with an economical spell of 1/10 from three overs. Alice Monaghan also contributed by dismissing Georgia Elwiss.
