Durham Women produced a clinical all-round performance to register a convincing seven-wicket victory over Lancashire Women in the Women’s T20 Blast 2026 at Chester-le-Street, successfully chasing 80 with 39 balls to spare after restricting their opponents through a disciplined bowling display.

Opting to field first after winning the toss, Durham immediately seized control. Lancashire’s innings got off to a shaky start despite Eve Jones finding a couple of early boundaries during her 11 off 12 balls. The opening stand yielded only 1 run before Trudy Johnson struck the first blow, removing Meg Lanning for a five-ball duck with the score on 11 in the sixth over.
Durham tightened the screws further when Heather Graham dismissed Eve Jones for 11, reducing Lancashire to 14/2 in 3.2 overs. Darcy Carter attempted to stabilise the innings alongside Emma Lamb, and the pair added seven runs before Johnson returned to remove Lamb for 6 from 11 balls, leaving Lancashire struggling at 21/3 after 6.1 overs.
The pressure continued to mount as Katie Levick and the Durham bowlers maintained excellent control. Carter battled hard at one end but received little support from the other.
Tilly Kesteven was dismissed for a two-ball duck by Johnson, making it 21/4, while Eleanor Threlkeld contributed just 4 before Katherine Fraser accounted for the wicket at 39/5 in the 10.4th over. Carter and Fi Morris briefly resisted with a 4-run partnership before Mady Villiers dismissed Morris for 3. Kate Cross then joined Carter and added 18 valuable runs, with Cross making 17 from 19 deliveries to provide Lancashire with their best partnership of the innings. However, Levick removed Cross at 75/7 in the 17.3rd over, effectively ending Lancashire’s hopes of a late flourish.
The tail folded quickly thereafter as Tara Norris was caught for a duck, Vinali Weerapuli managed only 2, and Sophie Morris departed for a five-ball duck. Throughout the innings, Darcy Carter remained unbeaten on 32 from 42 deliveries, anchoring the innings despite wickets tumbling around her. Lancashire were eventually dismissed for 79 in 19.3 overs with four extras added to their total.
Durham’s bowling attack shared the spoils impressively. Trudy Johnson led the way with outstanding figures of 3/7 in four overs, consistently striking at crucial moments. Heather Graham chipped in with 1/24, Katie Levick delivered another economical spell of 2/15, Mady Villiers returned 2/17, Sophia Turner kept things tight with 0/9, while Katherine Fraser wrapped up the innings with 1/5 from 1.3 overs.
Needing just 80 for victory, Durham suffered an early setback when Mady Villiers was dismissed for 2 with only eight runs on the board after 2.4 overs, courtesy of a catch by Emma Lamb off Kate Cross. Captain Hollie Armitage then took charge of the chase with a confident and fluent innings. She stitched together a 24-run partnership with Emily Windsor, who contributed 11 from 18 deliveries before falling to Vinali Weerapuli at 32/2 in the seventh over. Lancashire found another breakthrough shortly after as Bess Heath managed only 2 before Weerapuli struck again, leaving Durham at 42/3 after 8.3 overs.
Any hopes of a Lancashire comeback were quickly extinguished by the composed partnership between Hollie Armitage and Heather Graham. The duo added an unbroken 38-run stand for the fourth wicket, guiding Durham home without any further alarms. Armitage remained unbeaten on a superb 44 from 33 balls, striking seven boundaries at a strike rate of 133.33, while Heather Graham supported her well with an unbeaten 19 from 17 deliveries, including three boundaries. Durham reached 80/3 in just 13.3 overs, completing the chase with seven wickets in hand and 39 deliveries remaining.
Lancashire’s bowlers fought hard despite defending a modest target. Vinali Weerapuli was the standout performer with 2/18 from four overs, accounting for Emily Windsor and Bess Heath to briefly raise hopes. Kate Cross claimed the early wicket of Mady Villiers and finished with 1/16 from three overs, while Tara Norris bowled economically for 0/6 in two overs. Emma Lamb conceded 15 runs in two overs, Sophie Morris gave away 13 from one over, Fi Morris returned 0/6, and Darcy Carter bowled the final over, conceding four runs as Durham sealed a comfortable win.
