Essex Women continued their impressive Women’s T20 Blast 2026 campaign with a composed six-wicket victory over Lancashire Women at Chelmsford, chasing down a target of 129 with 13 balls to spare. The contest featured several important partnerships, disciplined bowling spells, and a match-winning unbeaten half-century from Alice Macleod, who anchored the chase brilliantly after Lancashire had posted a competitive 128/8 from their 20 overs.

After being asked to bat first, Lancashire Women made a positive start through Eve Jones and Meg Lanning. Jones looked fluent from the outset, striking four boundaries in her quickfire 22 off just 12 balls. However, Essex struck early when Sophie Munro removed Lanning for a three-ball duck, leaving Lancashire at 1/1. Jones continued to counterattack, but her dismissal at 32/2 in the fifth over gave Essex further momentum. Danielle Collins contributed a brisk 14 from 10 deliveries and shared useful runs with Jones before Grace Scrivens trapped her leg-before.
The middle phase belonged largely to Lancashire captain Eleanor Threlkeld, who attempted to stabilise the innings. Grace Johnson struggled to accelerate during her 12 from 19 balls before Eva Gray removed her, reducing Lancashire to 58/4 in the ninth over. Threlkeld then found support from Seren Smale as the pair rebuilt steadily. Their partnership added 35 valuable runs and helped Lancashire recover from the early setbacks. Threlkeld scored 26 from 24 balls, including two boundaries, before Grace Scrivens struck again, with wicketkeeper Amara Carr completing a sharp stumping to leave Lancashire at 93/5.
Seren Smale continued to battle through the latter stages of the innings, compiling 20 runs from 21 deliveries. Lancashire, however, struggled to find acceleration against Essex’s disciplined bowling attack. Fi Morris was dismissed for a single-ball duck by Scrivens, while Grace Potts chipped in with 7 before being run out. Kate Cross remained unbeaten on 19 from 18 balls and struck a six that helped Lancashire push towards a respectable finish. Hannah Jones added an unbeaten 3 as Lancashire closed on 128/8 from their 20 overs.
Essex’s bowling performance was built around the outstanding spell of Grace Scrivens, who returned figures of 3/23 from four overs and consistently broke crucial partnerships. Kate Coppack was equally economical, claiming 1/19 from her four overs. Sophie Munro removed Meg Lanning and finished with 1/28, while Eva Gray took 1/34. Sophia Smale bowled tightly without reward, conceding just 23 runs from her four-over spell.
Chasing 129, Essex suffered an early setback when captain Grace Scrivens departed for 19 after putting on 40 runs with Alice Macleod for the opening wicket. Despite the loss, Macleod remained calm and took charge of the chase. She formed a vital 66-run second-wicket partnership with Jodi Grewcock, which effectively shifted the game in Essex’s favour. Grewcock played an excellent supporting role, scoring 39 from 32 balls with four boundaries.
When Grewcock fell at 106/2 in the 14th over, Essex required only a measured finish. Joanne Gardner managed 3 before becoming Vinalli Wearpuli’s second victim. Florence Miller added 10 from 10 balls but was dismissed late in the chase. Throughout the innings, Macleod stood firm, producing a match-winning unbeaten 54 from 39 deliveries. Her knock featured eight boundaries and maintained the required rate comfortably. Sophia Smale remained not out on 1 as Essex reached 132/4 in 17.5 overs, sealing victory with more than two overs to spare.
Lancashire’s bowling effort saw Vinalli Wearpuli emerge as the most successful bowler with 2/28 from 3.5 overs. Grace Potts and Kate Cross each picked up a wicket, returning figures of 1/21 and 1/26 respectively. Hannah Jones delivered an economical spell of 0/19 from three overs, while Grace Johnson and Fi Morris were unable to make further breakthroughs.
