On Tuesday Women Premier League (WPL) media advisory released a press note by Honorary Secretary BCCI, Jay Shah, which stated that the WPL player auction will take place at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on February 13, 2023, and 409 cricketers will be auctioned off in total.
Mumbai will host the WPL’s debut season from March 4 to March 26. The main competition will be held at the Brabourne Stadium and D.Y. Patil Stadium, where a total of 22 games will be contested.
There were 1525 players who registered for the first WPL Player Auction, but only 409 made the cut. Out of the 409 players, 246 are Indians, 163 are from abroad, and eight are from partner countries. There are 202 total capped players, 199 total uncapped players, and 8 players from associate countries. There are a total of 90 slots available for the five teams, 30 of which are reserved for players from other countries.

The highest reserve price is Rs 50 lakh, and 24 players have chosen to be included in the top category. The few Indians who have placed themselves in the top category are Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, and captain Shafali Verma, who led India to victory in the Under-19 T20 World Cup. Ellyse Perry, Sophie Ecclestone, Sophie Devine, and Deandra Dottin, to name a few, are just a handful of the thirteen foreign athletes who have positioned themselves below the Rs 50 lakh reserve price.
