North Delhi Strikers wins Inaugural Women’s Delhi Premier League with Upasana Yadav’s Century

North Delhi Strikers were crowned as the Inaugural champions of the Women’s Delhi Premier League courtesy of Upasana Yadav’s unbeaten century.

The inaugural edition of the Women’s Delhi Premier League took place from 2nd to 8th September 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

North Delhi Strikers led by skipper Soni Yadav were crowned as the champions of the Inaugural edition of the tournament as they defeated South Delhi Superstarz led by skipper Shweta Sehrawat in the final by 10 runs.

Central Delhi Queens (CDQ) journey in the tournament:

Central Delhi Queens led by skipper Laxmi Yadav had a forgettable campaign in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Delhi Premier League (WDPL). They finished at the bottom of the points table with just one point from their three games courtesy of a washout game with the East Delhi Riders (EDR). They were the only side to remain winless in the inaugural edition of the tournament.

Vandana Chaturvedi is the leading run-scorer for her side and the 10th-highest run-scorer of the tournament with 42 runs at a strike rate of 116.67 and an average of 21 in a couple of innings. Parunika Sisodia was the joint-highest wicket-taker for her side alongside Neha Chillar with 2 wickets to her name in a couple of innings with the ball.

East Delhi Riders (EDR) journey in the tournament:

East Delhi Riders led by skipper Priya Punia had a decent campaign in the inaugural edition as they finished 3rd on the points table with 3 points from three games, including one victory, one defeat, and one washout game.

Pratika Rawal is the leading run-scorer for her side and the 4th highest run-scorer of the tournament with 93 runs at a strike rate of 127.40 and an impressive average of 46.50 in a couple of innings. Her tally of runs includes one half-century. Saachi was the leading wicket-taker for her side and the 5th highest wicket-taker of the tournament with three wickets to her name in a couple of innings with the ball for her side.

South Delhi Superstarz (SDS) journey in the tournament:

South Delhi Superstarz led by skipper Shweta Sehrawat finished 2nd on the points table with four points from three games. Their only defeat in the campaign came in the 1st game of the season against the East Delhi Riders (EDR).

Tanisha Singh is the leading run-scorer for their side and the 3rd highest run-scorer of the tournament with 121 runs at a decent strike rate of 126.04 and an impressive average of 40.33 in four innings. Her tally of runs includes one half-century in the final. Aarti Kumari was the leading wicket-taker for her side and the 2nd highest wicket-taker of the tournament with six wickets at a strike rate of 16 and an economy of 7.44 in four innings with the ball.

North Delhi Strikers (NDS) journey in the tournament:

North Delhi Strikers (NDS) led by skipper Soni Yadav on the other hand finished at the top of the points table courtesy of a superior net run rate with four points from three games. Their only defeat came against the South Delhi Superstarz.

Upasana Yadav was the leading run-scorer for her side and of the tournament with 270 runs at an impressive strike rate of 145.16 and a mind-boggling average of 90 in four innings. Her tally of runs included a couple of half-centuries and an unbeaten, match-winning century in the final.

Nazma Sultana was the leading wicket-taker for her side and of the tournament with seven wickets to their name at a strike rate of 10.29 and an economy of 6.75 in four innings with the ball. Her tally of wickets includes one three-wicket haul.
