Bangladesh batter Fargana Hoque made history on Friday against Australia in the 2022 Women’s World Cup as she became the first Bangladeshi woman to score 1000 ODI runs. Hoque who’s been a part of Bangladesh women since 2011 has played 47 matches to score 1003 runs at an average of 24.46. The right-hand batter has been one of the huge positives for Bangladesh in their first-ever World Cup campaign. In 6 matches, Hoque has scored 162 runs with 2 half-centuries. She scored a 52 against New Zealand and a match-winning 71 against Pakistan as Bangladesh won their first world cup match by defeating Pakistan by 9 runs.

In her 47 match career, She has scored 765 runs in overseas conditions and 238 runs at home. She has consistently scored 100+ runs in a calendar year since 2017. She has scored the majority of her runs against Pakistan and South Africa. She has scored 360 runs in 12 matches against Pakistan and 351 runs in 17 matches against South Africa. 6 of the 9 fifties have come against these 2 sides.

As years have gone by, we have seen Bangladesh punch above their weight stepping up against stronger as we saw in their first-ever World Cup where they won their first WC match against Pakistan and gave a tough fight to South Africa and West Indies. We can surely expect this team to get better by performance as the years go by with players getting more experience. Experienced players like Fargana Hoque, Salma Khatun, Nigar Sultana, etc are some key players who have to take responsibility and make sure Bangladesh grow strong in the coming years. With exciting young talents like Fariha Trisna, Murshida Kathun, and many more coming up, the future looks very bright for the Bangladeshi Tigress.
