Stafanie Taylor to lead as West Indies announces 15 players squad for 2022 Women’s World Cup
Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Sunday announced the 15 players squad for the 2022 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
The team led by all-rounder Stafanie Taylor with off-spinner Anisa Mohammed being her deputy will be in action in the opening match of the World Cup on March 4 against the host New Zealand. The presence of Taylor is a huge relief not just for the team but also for the fans as the World No. 7 ranked ODI all-rounder sustained a concussion during the 3rd ODI of the team’s tour to South Africa earlier this month that kept her out of the 4th ODI, handing over the captaincy to Anisa.
The presence of some notable players alongside Taylor and Mohammed, namely the World Boss Deandra Dottin, star all-rounder Hayley Matthews, the return of renowned leg-spinner Afy Fletcher along with 5 more experienced players, together will help the 5 probable World Cup debutants in building confidence and performing well in the big tournament.
West Indies has also named three traveling reserves as part of the tournament’s Covid-19 protocols: Kaysia Schultz, Mandy Mangru and Jannillea Glasgow.

As reported by ESPN Cricinfo, commenting on the squad, CWI’s Lead Selector for Women’s cricket Ann Browne-John said
“The squad selected shows a blend of youth and experience. We have Anisa Mohammed who’s playing in her fifth World Cup and will help guide the younger ones selected. We have five players who have had their maiden cricket World Cup selection,”
“The team just completed a series against South Africa where the players got good preparation before the Tournament. There were some relatively good showings with a few players having outstanding performances and it is expected that they would raise their levels even further during the competition.
“Afy Fletcher’s return strengthens the bowling department as she continues to be a world class leg spinner.” she further added
Joining the 15 players will be 3 traveling reserves- Kaysia Schultz, Mandy Mangru, and Jannillea Glasgow as per the tournament’s Covid-19 protocols.
