In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup was postponed from February 2021 to March 2022. ICC confirmed that the tournament will take place from 4th March to 3rd April and will be hosted by New Zealand. The ODI tournament will be conducted in a round-robin and knockout format.
The mega event will see 8 teams lock horns and play against each other for 31 matches. New Zealand has qualified by the virtue of being the hosts. Australia, England, South Africa, and India have qualified as a result of the Women’s Championship and a further three teams will be a part of the tournament post the World Cup Qualifier. The tournament will be played across six venues – Eden Park, Seddon Park, Bay Oval, University Oval, Basin Reserve with Hagley Oval all set to host the finals.
Keeping the tournament in mind, New Zealand Cricket is exhorting for public support that will inspire people to participate in this magnificent event. they would like to have people interested in women’s cricket on their team. Some ways by which one can be of help in making this event a successful one are –
- Invite your personal and professional networks to get during the tournament
- Participate in promotional events in the lead-up to the tournament
- Encourage, friends, family, and fellow club members to attend Cricket World Cup 2022 matches
- Post tournament related updates on social media
- Collaborate with other Cricket World Cup 2022 Champions to raise awareness about the Women’s World Cup
In return, there are goodies lined up for those who lend their support to this Cricket World Cup. They will be invited to exciting events in the pre-event fanfare leading up to the tournament. The first one thousand people who sign up to be a Cricket World Cup 22 champion will receive an exclusive CWC22 merchandise pack.
One needs to ‘opt-in’ to receive communications from the CWC22 by indicating ‘Register Now’ in this link. Personal details need to be filled in followed by the registration, following which the CWC22 will start their correspondence. In case, if at a later stage one decides to drop out of it, he just needs to sent an email to this effect. Only people residing in New Zealand from February 2021 to April 2022 are eligible to sign up for this.
