Webb’s finishing in style helps Renegades pull off a victory against Sixers

The underdogs and least expected winners of this encounter Melbourne Renegades pulled off an extraordinary win over the Sydney Sixers as five runs were required off the final delivery in 19th over, Courtney Webb smashed Marizanne Kapp over long-on for six after they had needed 30 from the last two overs. Kapp had the task to defend 15 runs in the final over, To Webb’s fortune, she got multiple life supports as she was dropped off the second ball and then a misfield in the deep added to the pressure which gave her a boundary.

Adding to the thrill, a direct hit run-out by Lauren Smith removed Carly Leeson to leave the Renegades needing 7 off 2. Leeson was the batter who took responsibility to lead the innings to victory as she hit hard sixes in the penultimate over off Sarah Aley after the Sixers were to defend 140. Danni Wyatt’s half-century was leading the chase, but when she fell for 55 in the 15th over it felt like a game over for renegades. However, looking into a bigger picture the greater concern for the Sixers than the result was an injury to Ellyse Perry which she caught while saving runs in the field.
