Lata Mondal and Fatema Jahan Lead as Bangladesh A Women Extend Unbeaten Run

The 11th Match in the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars 2026 at Bangkok unfolded as a one-sided yet eventful contest, where Bangladesh A Women faced Malaysia Women turned into a showcase of all-around dominance. It wasn’t a blazing start for Bangladesh A Women, but the way they rebuilt and then defended their total highlighted why they remain one of the strongest sides in this tournament.

Bangladesh A Women’s innings began on a shaky note when Ishma Tanjim was snapped up for 0, caught by Wan Julia off Nur Dania Syuhada at just 1/0 in 0.3 overs. The early breakthrough gave Malaysia Women hope. Rubya Haider and Sarmin Sultana attempted to steady the innings, but Rubya’s brisk 14 off 11 balls, featuring two boundaries, ended at 2-37 in 4.5 overs as she was trapped lbw by Nur Arianna Natsya. Sarmin Sultana looked fluent during her 30 off 25 deliveries, striking three fours at a strike rate of 120.00, but Mahirah Izzati Ismail cut her stay short at 4-52 in 7.4 overs, with Sumaia Akter having already been run out for 0 earlier at 3-42.

At 52/4, Bangladesh A Women were under pressure. That’s when Lata Mondal and skipper Fahima Khatun stitched together the defining partnership of the innings. Lata anchored beautifully, scoring a composed 48 off 44 balls with four boundaries, while Fahima contributed a valuable 29 off 24 balls, striking three fours. Their 55-run stand carried the score from 52 to 107 before Fahima was dismissed at 5-107 in 15.3 overs, caught and bowled by Mas Elysa.

Sadia Akter then injected late momentum with a quickfire 19 off just 11 balls, smashing two sixes at a strike rate of 172.72. She added crucial runs alongside Lata before departing at 6-141 in 18.6 overs, caught by Nur Izzatul Syafiqa off Nur Dania Syuhada. Lata fell soon after at 7-151 in 19.6 overs, lbw to Ainna Hamizah Hashim. Bangladesh A Women completed their 20 overs at 151/7, with 10 extras (2 no-balls, 8 wides) at a run rate of 7.55.

Malaysia Women’s bowling effort had its moments. Nur Dania Syuhada led with 2/30 in 4 overs, while Ainna Hamizah Hashim (1/36), Nur Arianna Natsya (1/17), Mahirah Izzati Ismail (1/20), and Mas Elysa (1/25) chipped in with wickets. However, the inability to contain the middle-order partnership proved costly.

Chasing 152, the Malaysian women never quite found their rhythm. Wan Julia fell lbw to Fatema Jahan for 3 at 1-6 in 2.4 overs. Nazatul Hidayah Husna Binti Razali followed immediately at 2-6, and Ainna Hamizah Hashim’s scratchy 2 ended at 3-6 in 3.2 overs. The early burst from Fatema Jahan, who was exceptional with 3/10 in 4 overs (including a maiden), broke the backbone of the chase.

Mas Elysa (5 off 11) and Nur Izzatul Syafiqa (3 off 12) tried to resist, but regular wickets kept falling, 4-16, 5-21, and 6-22 inside 10.1 overs. Mahirah Izzati Ismail’s 6 and Irdina Beh Nabil’s 5 couldn’t change the narrative. Nur Arianna Natsya showed some fight with a fighting 22* off 24 balls, hitting three boundaries, but lacked support as wickets tumbled at 7-30, 8-42, and 9-45.

Sharifa Khatun impressed with 2/13 in 4 overs, Farjana Easmin took 1/14, Ishma Tanjim 1/6, and Lata Mondal also picked up 1/2 in 2 overs. Bangladesh A Women’s disciplined bowling attack restricted Malaysia Women to 61/9 in 20 overs at a run rate of just 3.05, sealing a commanding 90-run victory.

This Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars clash reflected Bangladesh A Women’s depth in both batting and bowling. From Lata Mondal’s Player of the Match all-around performance (48 and 1/2) to Fatema Jahan’s match-defining spell, it was a clinical display that strengthened their campaign in Bangkok.
