Renuka Singh and Radha Yadav rattles Bangladesh as India storm into the final of the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup
The lower ranked sides continue to be a no match to the higher ranked sides as we witnessed another one-sided contest on the 6th day of the tournament. Bangladesh defeated Malaysia by 114 runs in the 11th match of the tournament. On the other hand, Sri Lanka defeated Thailand by 10 wickets in the 12th match of the tournament.
The Indian women’s team led by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur ended the league stages as the table toppers from Group A and Sri Lanka led by skipper Chamari Athapaththu was the table toppers in Group B. India was all set to face Bangladesh in the 1st semi-final and Sri Lanka was all set to face Pakistan in the 2nd semi-final.

Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana Joty won the toss and opted to bat first in the 1st semi-final. Marufa Akter replaced Sabikun Nahar Jesmin in the playing 11 for Bangladesh. Uma Chetry replaced Dayalan Hemalatha, Pooja Vastrakar replaced Arundhati Reddy, and regular skipper Harmanpreet Kaur replaced Sajeevan Sajana for India in the playing 11.
Bangladesh got off to a poor start as they lost the wicket of their opening batter Dilara Akter in the first over of the innings. Renuka Singh Thakur provided the first breakthrough for India. Bangladesh suffered a mini collapse as they lost their next five wickets for just 37 runs. Shorna Akter joined skipper Nigar Sultana Joty at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 36-run partnership for the 7th wicket to take their side close to the 100-run mark.
Radha Yadav struck twice in the last over as Bangladesh ended up with a total of 80/8 in their quota of overs. Skipper Nigar Sultana Joty (32 off 51 balls), and Shorna Akter (19 off 18 balls) were the top performers with the bat for Bangladesh. Renuka Singh (4-1-10-3), Radha Yadav (4-1-14-3), and Deepti Sharma (4-0-14-1) were the top performers with the ball for India.
Chasing a target of 81, the Indian openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma cruised through the target with 10 wickets in hand and nine overs (54 balls) to spare. The duo scored over seven runs an over. Smriti Mandhana (55 off 39 balls), and Shafali Verma (26 off 28 balls) were the top performers with the bat for India. Rabeya Khan (2-0-10-0), and Jahanara Alam (3-0-17-0) were the top performers with the ball for Bangladesh.
Renuka Singh Thakur was awarded the Player of the Match for her sensational match-winning spell (4-1-10-3) with the ball in the semi-final. She played a crucial role in helping her side clinch a thumping 10-wicket victory as India stormed into the final of the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024 on 28th July 2024 (Sunday) from 3 PM IST in Dambulla.
