The Indian team led by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is currently involved in the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024. India started their campaign on a high with a dominating seven-wicket victory against Pakistan.

India has already secured a point in the group stage after defeating Pakistan by 7 wickets in their opening match. The young 21-year-old off-spinner from Karnataka Shreyanka Patil was originally picked in the squad for the ongoing ACC Women’s Asia Cup. She returned with exceptional match figures (3.2-0-14-2) with the ball against Pakistan. During that match, all-rounder Shreyanka Patil fractured her left-hand finger while fielding and was subsequently ruled out of the Women’s Asia Cup T20.

The 26-year-old left-arm spinner from Himachal Pradesh Tanuja Kanwer was traveling with the side to Sri Lanka as a reserve and was named as her replacement in the squad. The left-arm spinner immediately replaced Shreyanka Patil in the playing 11 against the United Arab Emirates. She became the only 2nd Indian player to make her international debut in the Women’s Asia Cup. Mansi Joshi was the first one to do so in the 2016 edition of the Women’s Asia Cup against Bangladesh.

Tanuja Kanwer was picked up by Gujarat Giants in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). They retained her in the 2nd edition of the tournament and she had a brilliant campaign with the ball for her side. She was the leading wicket-taker with the ball for Gujarat Giants with 10 wickets to her name at an average of 20.70 and an economy of 7.13 in eight innings.
