Australia’s Georgia Voll makes her Test debut at Melbourne

Georgia Voll, a 21-year-old top-order batter from Queensland, has had a dream period in the last couple of months. In December 2024, she was called in as a replacement for the regular skipper, Alyssa Healy, for their bilateral ODI series at home.

Voll went on to make her international debut in the 1st ODI on 5th December 2024 against India at the Allan Border Field, Brisbane. She was impressive in her debut innings, guiding her side over the line with a fine 46* off 42 balls. She followed that up by notching up her maiden century (101 off 87 balls) in the format on 8th December 2024, in the 2nd ODI of the series at the Allan Border Field, Brisbane.

She ended as the leading run-scorer in her debut series, with 173 runs at a strike rate of 108.80 and a mind-blowing average of 86.50, in three innings with the bat for her side. She made her T20I debut in the 1st T20I of the ongoing 8th edition of the multi-format Women’s Ashes down under. She played a handy cameo of 21 off 11 balls in her debut innings for her side in the format at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). She scored 49 runs in three innings with the bat for her side in the series.

Voll received her Test cap from the legendary former Australian skipper Belinda Clark ahead of the historic one-off Pink Ball Test match at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on 30th January 2025 (Thursday).

It is a historic occasion in multiple ways, as women’s Test cricket returned to the MCG after 76 years, and it’s also the first-ever pink-ball Test at the venue.
