As the highly anticipated one-off Test approaches, following the ongoing 3-match T20I series, Cricket Australia has announced the women’s Test squad for the historic day-night Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Notably, Alyssa Healy, who has struggled with injuries recently and remains sidelined from the ongoing T20I series, has been included in the 13-player squad, with Tahlia McGrath named as her deputy. Injured Ash Gardner (minor calf strain), who did not take field in the first two T20Is, has also been named.

While Gardner is expected to recover in time for the Test and also feature in the 3rd T20I against England, Healy is likely to play as a specialist batter, with Beth Mooney continuing as the wicketkeeper. In-form Georgia Voll, who made a remarkable century in only her 2nd ODI and debuted in the T20Is during this Ashes series, is in line for a potential Test debut.

From the squad that played South Africa in a one-off Test earlier last year, Australia will be without the services of spin-bowling all-rounder Sophie Molineux, who is currently sidelined due to a knee injury.

Australia’s Test squad:

Alyssa Healy (C), Tahlia McGrath (VC), Darcie Brown, Ashleigh Gardner, Kim Garth, Alana King, Phoebe Litchfield, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Voll, Georgia Wareham

The one-off Test will mark the first day-night match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the first women’s Test at the venue since 1948-49. The 4-day Test gets underway on January 30, 2025, at 9:00 AM Indian Standard Time (IST).
