West Indies led by skipper Samara Ramnath suffered a crushing 81-run defeat against Sri Lanka in the 3rd game of the group and the 15th match of the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2025. India led by skipper Niki Prasad dominated the hosts, Malaysia to seal a 10-wicket victory in the 4th game of the group and the 16th of the tournament.
On the final day of the league stages of the competition, there was still one spot up for grabs for the Super Six stages. The hosts, Malaysia led by skipper Nur Dania Syuhada were up against the West Indies led by skipper Samara Ramnath in the 5th game of the group and the 23rd of the tournament. Later on, India led by skipper Niki Prasad were up against Sri Lanka led by skipper Manudi Nanayakkara in the 6th game of the group and the 24th of the tournament, which also happens to be the final game of the group stages before the Super Six gets underway.

Asabi Callender and Samara Ramnath lead the West Indies into the Super Six
The West Indian openers Asabi Callender and skipper Samara Ramnath got their side off to a steady start with a 21-run opening partnership after the Malaysian skipper Nur Dania Syuhada won the toss and inserted them to bat first. Syuhada got the better of the opposition skipper Samara Ramnath to provide the massive first breakthrough for the home side in the final over of the powerplay.
Decent partnerships throughout the innings took the West Indies to a competitive total of 112/7 in their quota of 20 overs. Asabi Callender (30 off 42 balls), Jahzara Claxton (19 off 15 balls), and Abigail Bryce (14 off 19 balls) were the top performers with the bat for the West Indies. Nazwah (4-0-28-2), and Nur Izzatul Syafiqa (3-0-26-2), picked up a couple of wickets each while Nur Dania Syuhada (4-1-16-1), and Marsya (4-0-13-0) were sensational with the ball for Malaysia.
Chasing a target of 113, the Malaysian openers Nuni and Husna got their side off with a 14-run opening partnership. Husna’s impressive stay at the crease came to an end courtesy of an unfortunate run-out to provide the first breakthrough for the West Indies.
Skipper Nur Dania Syuhada joined Nuni at the crease and the duo stitched another impressive 16-run partnership for the 2nd wicket to take their side closer to their highest team score in the tournament so far. Jahazara Claxton broke the promising stand by removing Nuni in the 7th over of the innings to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side.
The hosts Malaysia were eventually bundled out for 59 in 18 overs, losing their last 8 wickets for just 29 runs, and as a result, they fell 53 runs short of the target with 2 overs to spare. Nur Dania Syuhada (12 off 17 balls) was the top scorer and the only batter to enter the double digits with the bat for the home side Malaysia. Samara Ramnath (4-0-6-4) was exceptional with the ball, while Jahzara Claxton (3-1-9-1), Naijanni Cumberbatch (4-0-14-2), and Erin Daane (2-0-7-2) provided brilliant support with the ball for the West Indies.
Samara Ramnath was awarded the Player of the Match for her match-defining spell of 4-0-6-4, playing a crucial role in helping her side seal the final berth for the Super Six stages of the ongoing 2nd edition of the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup 2025, in Malaysia with a 53-run victory over the hosts in the penultimate game of the league stages of the tournament at the Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur.
Trisha, Joshitha, and Shabnam set up another dominant show for India
The Indian openers Gongadi Trisha and wicket-keeper batter G Kamalini got their side off to a confident start, however, a double strike from Pramudi Methsara in the 4th over of the innings, which eventually turned out to be a double wicket-maiden, brought the momentum back to Sri Lanka, after skipper Manudi Nanayakkara won the toss and opted to bowl first. The rains arrived and there was a brief hold-up in play.
Niki Prasad joined opening batter Gongadi Trisha at the crease and the duo steadied the ship with a much-needed 31-run partnership for the 3rd wicket to take their side closer to the 50-run mark. Aseni Thalagune picked up the big wicket of the opposition skipper to provide the 3rd breakthrough for Sri Lanka in the 10th over of the innings.
Bhavika Ahire joined Gongadi Trisha at the crease and the duo laid the platform with another crucial 30-run partnership for the 4th wicket. Manudi Nanayakkara provided the crucial 5th breakthrough by removing Gongadi Trisha (49 off 44 balls) in the 14th over of the innings. India eventually ended up with a competitive total of 118/9 in their quota of 20 overs.
A late flourish from Joshitha VJ (14 off 9 balls), and Mithila Vinod (16 off 10 balls) propelled India closer to the 120-run mark. Pramudi Methsara (3-1-10-2), Limansa Thilakarathna (4-0-14-2), and Aseni Thalagune (3-0-24-2) picked up a couple of wickets each, while Rashmika Sewwandi (3-0-17-1), and Chamodi Praboda (3-0-23-1) played a crucial role with the ball for Sri Lanka.
Chasing a target of 119, the Indian new-ball bowlers Shabnam Shakil and Joshitha VJ triggered the Sri Lankan collapse reducing them to 9/4 in the 4th over of the run chase. Sri Lanka were eventually restricted to 58/9 in their quota of 20 overs, falling 60 runs short of the target. Rashmika Sewwandi (15 off 12 balls) was the top scorer with the bat for Sri Lanka and was the only batter to enter the double digits in the chase.
Parunika Sisodia (4-0-7-2), Shabnam Shakil (4-1-9-2), Joshitha VJ (3-0-17-2), Aayushi Shukla (4-0-13-1), and Vaishnavi Sharma (4-1-3-1) were exceptional with the ball for India. Gongadi Trisha was awarded the Player of the Match for her brilliant innings of 49 off 44 balls, playing a crucial role in helping India go unbeaten into the Super Six stages.
