Bio:

Issy Wong was just 20 years old when she became an all-format international cricketer, a feat not many can lay claim to. She is among the fastest bowlers in the women’s circuit, one of the most promising young players in England, and has been earmarked as the successor to Katherine Sciver-Brunt.

She received her maiden call-up during England’s home tour against South Africa. On her Test debut, she picked up three wickets in both innings combined. The English pacer also had a formidable outing on her ODI debut, scalping three wickets. In 2023, Issy Wong was signed by the Mumbai Indians for the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). She made an immediate impact, known for her fiery pace and ability to bowl in crucial moments. Wong’s performances in the WPL further solidified her reputation as one of the leading fast bowlers in women’s cricket. She took a hat-trick against UP Warriorz in the eliminator, guiding the Mumbai Indians into the final, which they later went on to win. She picked up 15 wickets in the first edition of the WPL. Following the WPL spotlight, she has struggled with her bowling, so much so that she has had to remodel her action and faced the axe from national and club teams. Determined to make a comeback, she was nearing her best late in 2023 and as recently seen in the 2024 domestic season.

Issy has also been part of multiple franchises in the Women’s Big Bash League, playing for Sydney Thunder as well as Hobart Hurricanes. She plays for the Birmingham Phoenix in “The Hundred” league. In about 14 matches across formats, the medium pacer has 14 wickets to her name, making her a valuable asset to any team she represents.
