Bio:

Sune Luus’s cricketing career got off to a great start with a double debut in September 2012. Within a single week, she took the international stage by storm, playing her first ever One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (WT20I) matches. Both matches were against Bangladesh at Mirpur, showcasing her talent and adaptability early on.

However, it was in August 2016 that Luus truly made headlines with a performance that was for the record books. During the first ODI against Ireland, she achieved the rare feat of scoring a half-century and taking a five-wicket haul in a single ODI, joining an elite group of cricketers to accomplish such a feat. Her remarkable achievements didn’t end there; Luus also matched the record for the most wickets (37) in a calendar year in 2016.

Sune Luus had an exceptional match against Ireland in the 2016 World Cup when she became the first-ever South African player to claim a fifer in the World Cup. The success of the 2016 World Cup resonated in 2017 as Sune Luus was appointed captain of South Africa’s women’s team. Under her leadership, the team showcased sheer determination and skills, reaching the semi-final.

Recognition for her outstanding contributions came in 2017 when Luus was honored with the Cricket South Africa Award for Women’s Cricketer of the Year. This award served as a testimony to her consistent performance and commitment to the game.

In January 2020, Luus added another feather to her cap by becoming the first bowler in history to claim two six-wicket hauls in Women’s One Day Internationals against England and Ireland. Her exceptional bowling performance against New Zealand not only played a crucial role in securing a series victory for South Africa but also earned her the player of the series award.

As her career progressed, Luus continued to excel on the international stage, representing South Africa in major tournaments beyond WODIs and WT20Is. She made her debut in the Women’s Test format in June 2022, leading South Africa against England at Taunton. This marked a significant milestone, showcasing her leadership qualities and further solidifying her status as a multi-format all-rounder for South Africa.

As she continues to write her story on the cricketing stage, her impact will be felt for years to come, both in South Africa and beyond.
