Ghana national women’s cricket team represents Ghana in international women’s cricket. Since playing their first cricket match in 2015, their journey includes significant participation in regional and international tournaments, marking their growth and development in the sport.
Following the ICC’s decision in April 2018 to grant Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20I) status to all its members, Ghana’s matches since 1 July 2018 hold WT20I status.
Historical Highlights – Ghana Women’s National Cricket Team
Ghana’s women’s cricket team made their mark in the inaugural 2015 North West Africa Cricket Council (NWACC) Women’s Tournament held in Gambia. They finished third, behind Sierra Leone and Gambia, and ahead of Mali. Ghana subsequently hosted the second edition of the tournament in 2016.
Ghana played their first WT20I match against Rwanda at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval in Lagos on 28 March 2022, during the 2022 Nigeria Invitational Women’s T20I Tournament.
Tournament Highlights – Ghana Women’s National Cricket Team
1. 2015 North West Africa Cricket Council (NWACC) Women’s Tournament
Ghana participated in the inaugural edition held in Gambia, finishing third behind Sierra Leone and Gambia, and ahead of Mali.
2. 2022 Nigeria Invitational Women’s T20I Tournament
Ghana played their first official WT20I matches in March 2022. This tournament marked a significant milestone in their international cricket journey.
3. 2023 Nigeria Invitational Women’s T20I Tournament
In this edition, Ghana competed against Sierra Leone, Cameroon, and Nigeria. Unfortunately, they couldn’t secure a victory, finishing at the bottom of the table.
4. 2023 ACA Africa T20 Cup North-West/East Qualifier
Ghana participated in this qualifier tournament in December 2023. They were placed in Group A alongside Rwanda and Gambia, finishing second in the group and qualifying for the 2023 ACA Africa T20 Cup.
5. 2023 ACA Africa T20 Cup
Ghana was placed in Group B but finished last in the group and couldn’t progress further in the tournament.
